grand prix center console

anyone try to fit the newer 97-03 grand prix center console yet? it has the same dimensions as a 4thgen but with hide away cup holders for those of you who must have.

just curious if it's been done...

haven't seen it done, but I've had the idea in the back of my mind for well over a year now. I've never seen a GP with a manual shifter though and that's what I'd want... do they even make them?

i love the GP console- you can make it work. if you have a manual make a trim ring and get a custom boot.

yeah the shifter area wouldn't be a problem so much as the actual height. i'm still trying to get clearance issues covered and the width double countered though. need a shifter first though.

i do, i haven't fully taken the console out though as i like my grandprix to much to mess with it. i think the interior design is personally more fitting of a thirdgen with the door pannels, center console and even dash over the 4thgen style. i'm playing with some parts of those and the corvette while modifying the abs molds slightly. i want something that can be easily duplicated if necessary as well as completely removable to return back to stock if necessary.

That GTP console would look even more out of place than the 4th gen console everyone must have.

I've got a '98 GTP as well... I've never tried to fit the center console... but I can tell you for a fact that the seats are a no go.... don't ask how I know.

lol...

well that's good, you guys aren't really getting the section i was talking about which was fine. it should turn out nicely as the hideaway cupholders fit well.

You talking about around the radio/a/c pod, i think that would look cool, the entire console looks a tad thin to me but it could work.

My work is in progress for the console work i'm doing smoothing it all out, i plan on changing it again and using the lokar indicators but for now i'm kinda doing a "practice" one, should be done maybe early next week, also changing carpet color on the sides of it. Dont like the 4th gen console because of the cupholders but want something different

this is the only area i was talking about, for those who own one know what it does. i cut it out though.. fits nicely and gives that option that so many like. i just did it for another effect but it adds alot of elements to the console depending on how it's used.

Ahh, the curvy smooth part, gotta nice look to it...Still hate cupholders though, hidden or unhidden, in the car its closed bottles only and not drank until i'm out of it.

mine isn't for cupholders, however the idea was to present that those who did want them could make it possible with little work.

Almost all 97-03 GTPs have graphite leather interior which is similar to a charcoal... not hard to find. IMO there is no comparison between stock thirdgen interior and stock GTP interior.
