how hard is it to install

ok i have an 84 z with no pwr locks windows hatch or mirrors. my question is how hard is it to install all of these nice accessories. do i need a new harness or can i just use my existing one. and get some new doors from the junkyard with pwr locks, windows. i am planning on shaving my handles and this would be a great time to do the locks and windows. how would i go about doing a remote hatch. thanks jon

You'd probably be better swapping doors with those features rather than all that wiring. Its tough to get in there and do all the wiring but goodluck to you if you try it. I think power mirrors are just something waiting to break. The power hatch is extremely easy, I just did it to my car yesterday.

to install the new stuff depending on the type of system you get. i got my alarm system, which has a control box inside of it, with remotes. with all the wiring. you just tap into the original wires for power and ground, then the rest is just hooking up your doors. as far as the power windows you obviously need the motors, switches, and maybe a lil bit of wire depending if you already have the hookup inside your door or on the inside of the cockpit. I had switched mine from power, to crank to power, so all the connections were there for me. and the power locks were simple to install. took maybe 4 hrs to do it all. its just a pain to feed the wires from the inside to the door through that lil rubber thing. i put my control box underneath the centerconsole, under the power window switches.

I am in the same situation you are.

One of these days, I plan on adding all of these things.

I have done a little bit of research, and its not that difficult, it just takes time.

I suggest going to a local junkyard/pick your parts and look for the 3rd gens with power locks/rear hatch. You can remove your part from the car and you will be able to see how it is wired, plumbed, etc.. It will also cost you less $$ then buying new parts.

Right in the dead center below the hatch. Make sure you get one with a solenoid to pop the hatch so you can pop it from a button up front and not rely on a key.

My doors with power windows are also extremely heavy. Not sure how much this is due to the motors/parts. I would like to know weight difference compared to crank windows.
