there are two 10mm nuts in the recesses for the dummy lights, one on each side at the bottom. also you have to disconnect the speedo cable from the back of the speedo before the cluster will come out completely.

The speedo cable is held on by a clip behind the cluster. I get a long flathead screwdriver and contort myself so that I'm lying on the floor looking UP at the steering column. A little flashlight will help too. Once you find the clip and the cable
, you'll see how to remove it with the screr driver. You kinda have to compress the side of the clip. It's hard to explain, but when you see it you'll know.

Do yourself a favor too and lower the steering column an inch to give you more room to get the cluster out. There are two bolts holding the column up, you don't have to remove them completely, just loosen them off.

thanks guys! i lowered the column and made it a bunch easier. i got it all swapped out, and boy, am i happy! tht stock 85mph speedo looks so outta place in these cars. the 145mph looks sweet. kinda different next to one of the big fuel guages, instead of the tachometer, but, hey, it's "unique"! now, i just gotta get the drive gears swapped in the tranny so my speedo reads accurately. with the 4.10's and 28" tall tire, it's all kinds of messed up! at 70mph, it reads 90!

all camaros 82-89 got a mechanical speedo. i know that some 'birds got them earlier, not sure when. i'll have to get a picture of the way the cluster looks now, it's kinda cool with the base model cluster.
