Help with new door handle install

I went to install my new exterior door handles yesterday and they want to hit the body when you lift up the handle.

These are aftermarket handles and I have tried two different ones, with the same result. Any help would be appreciated! I need to get this car done!

Here's where it's hitting..

i have not done any handel swaps yet, actually wanting to get rid of them period, but the handels look high. if there is a way to lower them then that might fix your problem

That's not my picture. But I know what you're trying to say. That is also part of the problem, the way the handle is sitting. I just wanted to see if anyone else had this problem; it might just be these aftermarket handles.

where did you get the handles. i got a pair from someone on ebay, i'm assuming they are aftermarket. when i replaced the driver's side, it seems to just barely hit. i didn't really mind though, since the paint job is crap right now and it's worn out behind the handle from the old handle anyway. the only thing i can think of is put a little shim behind it on top. that should pull it away from the door enough, but i don't think it will be noticable.

did you use anything behind them when you install them? i used a stip of seam sealer from 3m it a long stringy rubber stuff. i just place a quick couple turns around the screw post and then install. that allows some extra space and will prevent rattles.

I think that it could be the handles.....for me, it only did that when the OEM jandles were not tightened all the way though. Perhaps you should try some Junk Yard OEM handles?

This may sound dumb, but I think it would work (and look fine)... just grind some of the back of the handle off. I am planning on grinding down the front of mine to get rid of the lip around the edge so it will be flat before I get mine repainted.

The GM handles fit excellent. Much better than the aftermarket ones.

I probably could have grinded down the part that was hitting and it would have been fine. I just feel much better about OEM parts.
