visibility with tachometer
I recently purchased a 10,000 Rpm tachometer from auto meter for the inside of my car. I wanted to install it to the right of the wheel right over the radio. I noticed that while putting it in place it blocks a bad spot where visbililty is needed because im a shorter guy. I tried other spots, and There is no other place to put this that would look good, and im wondering if it was a bad idea to purchase it. does anybody have an aftermarket tachometer in a 1989 firebird and can you tell me where you put it where it didnt block to much visibility. thanks alot for the help

i know on cars where i've mounted a tach, i've normally attached it to the steering column. YOu could even put it on the column so that it's over the factory tach, another option would be to hang it from under the dash instead of infront, however, w/ the firebirds air vents location, that might not be that feasable, can't remember since i don't have the old dash in anymore.

Have you considered installing it to the left of the wheel in the corner between the A pillar and the dash. I've seen a lot of people do that. My brother kind of has the same problem with his tach on the dash in his 69. Just a thought.

step #1, bring it back
step #2, buy a tach that matches your engines capabilities
step #3, try to put it in the stock location
otherwise there is no good spot on a bird, your going to block something wherever you put it

Big tachs on the dash are stuiped, looks cheap, unoriginal, and uncreative.
Esp. when the stock tach is still in the dash.

Sorry if I need a more accurate tach that is close to my line of sight.
I've taken the stock tach to 7,000 (which is as high as it goes) but who knows if the engine was actually turning that rpm. I'll trust my aftermarket tach over a factory unit any day, especially when turning those RPM's. It's seen 7,300 rpm so far and will probably see around 7,800 rpm at the track if I used the nitrous.

I'm having the same problem. I have a digital dash and there is no way im gonna hack up the board just to install an aftermarket tach. I guess Johnny Blaze is right, just have to settle for a shift light and rev limiter.
