I needed to do something about my hood sticking shut (the infamous thirdgen "bang on the hood, and it'll eventually pop up" problem), as I am paranoid about an engine fire at the track, and remember when Tom Byrne's car caught fire. In any case, I decided to install locking Aerocatch hood latches. This lets me lock the hood if I'm at a public parking lot at the grocery store, but leave it unlocked for track days. No worries about punk kids unpopping the hood and messing with the engine or car, either. I snapped a few photos as I installed them, and put it up on the Z28tt photo gallery. If there's enough interest, but I was considering becoming a distributor, but first I'd like to make sure it holds up.

Keep us updated on how they perform. I think the aerocatch fasteners are pretty trick. I would gladly ditch the old cable setup for $100 and some hood work. I bet these would even work on some glass hoods.

 

I need an update. I am about to buy these but the Flush style which mounts underneath the panel. Please let me know how you feel about the difference in Flush and plus Flush styles. Why did YOU choose the Plus Flush style over the flush style? Please let me know ASAP.

 

Shall be getting mine installed in a few months. How are they holding up.

im going plus flush because of the surface area it covers on top of the hood to hold it down, im afraid if i do flush mounts it will rip the hood off at higher speeds, ive seen some people use Epoxy to help hold a flush mount to the hood, but i just dont trust it wont rip off that either

 

Well, I got the flush mount (Locking) which uses 6 screws (also got anti-theft screws, which will be countersunk into the hood) on top to hold it down, if done correctly it will keep it secure. Using epoxy like mad will help distribute. I wanted the flush style because I didn't want big black ovals on my hard edged camaro, so since the IROC-Z decal uses 12 lines I was glad to hear these use 6 screws on each side, keeping the 12 accent marks of the IROC-Z decal. Its a little far fetched but its what helped me decide. Plus, I think this guy goes faster than I ever will in my TBI. In which he only uses 4 screws each side.

i got what your saying, i decided last night after looking and debating for hours to go with the plush flush for the shear fact that i can get them alot cheaper right now off ebay than the Flush mounts, also im not really worried about the lines of the car and things like that, i did almost have a set of flush mounts for really cheap but my computer lagged at the last second and somebody got them for 40 bucks from ebay lol

 

Haha, yeah I get crazy with making things match even though they in no way have any relations to one another (decal lines vs how many screws), but its how I match things...haha, crazy isn't it. Anyway be sure to let me know how it all goes. Since you will most likely get yours on before mine. I need my hood trimmed and fitted then the pins installed, wont be finally happening until about April-May. Mostly dependent on how I spend and save my money from now until then. I got a good 3k of work needed done that's including the hoodpins and hood fitment and install. In due time.

P.S. I mean I could have done fine without the tamperproof screws since I have locking latches but, oh well.

P.S.S. Also, please post pictures of where you mount them, I am trying to mount mine right between each headlight spacing. So [--]pin[--]_____[--]pin[--] (understand?), whereas Skulte has his towards the outer edge of the outer headlight. This will also depend on if your battery is in the stock location along with the cruise control and such on the bother side in which mine is all gone. Battery relocated to trunk.

 

ok, will do, im doing a Cervinis lift off cowl with non locking aerocatch on the front and locking MR.gasket pins on the back(only because i dont want any pins sticking out of my hood and the mr gasket lockers are the closest to flush without being outrageously expensive

but i havent picked up my hood or fitted anything yet, so we will see who gets it installed first lol

did i mention im doing this on a stock RS 305 tbi lol sounds pointless but my open element needs to BREATHE lol and the Cirvinis cowl was a good deal from another member on here

 

I'm thinking 4 locking Aerocatch latches on a lift-off RA1 hood, for my 87 GTA.

 

im still debating on spending the extra cash for 2 sets of Aerocatches or do the aerocatch mrgasket combo

Ha ha! I’ve been happy with them almost 20 years later, but you have to be careful closing them. I broke the first set, and they replaced it under warranty, and redesigned the stop (so the pin doesn’t slide back as far).

You don’t want to force the lever when the catch pin is binding on the vertical pin. Make sure to get it aligned perfectly and you’ll be happy.

 

I did mine and they were easy to install and they work good so far. I did not do key lock ones because the sanctioning body will not allow them.

 

I did mine last Dec.
