Wow, sounds like you got lucky.

I usually get scared when my car is at operating temp and I hit a puddle (not deep) and water splashes and hits the exhaust and smoke starts coming out from under the car.

Now to actually be that far underwater, that would be quite crappy.

sounds very lucky, guess you'll go even slower over puddles in the future. Ya definately got lucky though, had that engine gone under, you'd be speaking a different tune, good luck getting everything cleaned up.

My neighbor who drives a wrecker, said he pulled a guy out of the ditch of the same movie theater that we had to leave earlier. But the whole front of his car went underwater. And when he pulled it out he asked the guy what he wanted to do and the guy said he was gonna drive it. My neighbor told him that he didnt think that would be a good idea because of water in the motor. The guy insisted tho and cranked it up. It ran for a about a minute before the whole thing locked up. Not too smart.

yea i would have changed the oil. ran it for a short while then change the oil again. that way it would get all the water out of the bearings and stuff.

well there shouldn't be water inside the crankcase.. it should only get inside the combustion chambers, unless your valve covers are open for some reason..

But yeah you got lucky, glad you and your ride are okay!

well, water in the combustion chambers sounds bad enough to me. Because of the in-compressability of a liquid, i'd be expecting to find bent connecting rods as the water enters the compression stroke. and i'd have a feeling that the water will rust up those beautifully clean and slick cylinder walls in a couple seconds....

not to say anything.. but in a thirdgen i doubt that all the gaskets and everything on the Pan and timing cover could keep any water out of the oil pan.. especially if it is the stock engine in the car, or a never rebuilt engine out of another one.. gaskets get pretty crappy after 10 years. especially when they have to expand or shrink very quickly.
