repairing a cracked bumper

is it worth it to repair or replace a rear bumper that was cracked in half at the corner. i got hit today while my car was parked and thats what happened. iev worked with the polyeurathane bondo before and i trust my skills with it. the car needs paint anyways so whether its got a bondo look or a different color alltogether (salage yard replacement) i can live with it till the whole car gets splooged with paint.

You can probably fix it for less than buying one. If you already know how go for it.

You can probably get a used bumper in great shape for a descent price. I would look for a new used bumper before I would repair it.

If you have to align a rear bumper on a Camaro..then you've got some problems. The rear bumpre shouldn't need to be aligned....it just bolts on through the rear quarters and has push rivots in the bottem.

I guess I'm just used to getting new bumpers if they have been cracked...I work at a dealership body shop and if a bumper has a descent size crack...it's get's replaced...it doesn't get repaired.

Depends what insurance company the customer is going through. We do use used parts...and they are fine. I was just saying, if you can get a used bumper for 10-20 bucks...why not just paint it and toss it on there? Because you should be able to get a nice used bumper for pretty cheap. You would save alot of time and money that way

well if its just coming down to time and money . then i wont mind sitting at home and working on the repair rather then slaving in the heat at the junkyard to pull a new old one.

my main concerns were maybe stress cracks down the road or alignment, and since aligning was a dumb question. i think im just gonna take my time with repairing my crack. thanks for the input gentlemen

The insurance company I work for will replace a bumper cover if it has "several" cracked mounting tabs, is missing a decent size piece of material (something larger than a half $), or has a 4" or more longer crack, or damage to more than 3 body lines or a molded in name...

just my

I just replaced mine not to long ago, 3 layers of spray paint 3 layers of clear spray and it looks close to the original color I picked up a rear bumper cover for $20 and seriously you have like 4 nuts inside to put on and draw it in then 2 7mm screws in the bottom. And it's done. Mine was worse off than yours i'm pretty sure though. It's up to you and what you want to do. If your going to take it off to repair it i wouldnt bother just get another one. If your doing the repair on the car, well that's up to you and your repair skills. I've never done a urethane repair I don't know how they turn out. Sorry for the conflicting point of views
