Dropped the car on the floor!

Hey guys!

I was pushing my car up onto ramps to work on the radiator, and I overshot it, and it fell off. Now the doors are hard to close, like the whole front end was bent upwards.
They DO close, but you've got to slam them a bit.

Think it's major, or just an adjustment?
It doesn't look bad. Like nothing is way out of whack. But it's strange.

I've often feared doing that, never had. At least with the standard tranny cars. Delicate balance between burning the clutch or overshooting the ramps. Autos are not too bad.

You must have bent the unibody a little bit. Is the door scraping the rocker or do you still have some some clearance there?

thats kinda weird, what signs of damage??
theres no doubt you crushed some sheet metal but i wouldnt see it effecting the doors, if anything your car shouldve destroyed the ramps
my car is crushed on both sides most likely from some jerk with a frame lift, buckled the floor pan some, looks kinda ugly.. didnt have any effect on door clearance though
on second thought i guess a sudden impact like that could cause more damage.. *shrug*

and hell yes to manual trannies and ramps, major pain in the *** :P
or an auto with a sloppy convertor, haha
my father was a pro with the stick in his truck and i watched him drive over some ramps twice one day, it was just funny with the truck though since it cleared the ramps

They do make contact with the rocker when they're almost closed. Then it's that the striker isn't lined up with the door clasp anymore. So when you close the door it closes inward, and then has to move up a quarter/half an inch to lock onto the striker. Maybe rehanging the doors? They were probably sagging already, and this is the icing on the cake?

No real other signs of damage. At all.

I'd take it to an expert to make sure no major damage was done

That's why I use a floor jack and jackstands, to avoid such problems after almost doing the same thing with my El Camino. Before I got the stands, I would jack up the front high enough to slide the ramps under the tires.

i did the samething with my car a long time ago, but the ramps just kind of pushed away and nothing even really touched my car,
they were really crappy ramps though, and that was the first and last time i use ramps. Jacks and jackstands for me

so i was loading my camaro onto a trailer with some ramps...... we kinda forgot to hook the trailer up to the truck..... when the weight of the car got onto the ramps the tounge of the trailer went st8 up in the air, and the car landed on the ramps, but its decent was slow cause the trailer was a long heavy trailer. needless to say i looked stupid with the car half on the trailer and the etounge way up in the air, cause it was in a parkinglot right next to a intersection of two busy roads. whoops. i didn't have any damage at all the my car. you should look under it see if anything is crushed, bent, pulled apart at the seams, ext.

The tranny was out in my 'Camino so we tried to pull it onto the ramps with a chain. Well...the chain came loose and came back thru mid-air and smacked into the windshield, cracking it severely. The funny part was I was in the driver's seat of the 'Camino and I just remember the chain coming at me in slo-mo! It's the main reason I switched to jack stands.

any time you have to get the car off the ground is inviting disaster.

its not IF something is going to go wrong, its WHEN.

I have 4 home made ramps. 12 x 12 beams cut gradually with a chainsaw. Nice gradual slope. Every one that sees them wants them. Those store bought metal ones are garbage. They slide on you and I don't trust them. I had a set many moons ago and gave them away.

As for this partially bent car, I would mark the lower hinge bolts then ajust the door up a touch. The mark will allow you to put them back where they were if needed. Don't touch the upper hinge bolts just yet.

Thanks! This is kind of what I was looking for with this post!
I was also thinking to jack it up onto jack stands in the front, and then jump on the hood a couple of times! That would work right?

(Yes, I was kidding)

Alright - project doorspissmeoff!
