replacing with a mint one is near imposible.. hard to find those things... if it is a corner it can indeed be fixed.. but it takes time and a little money in order to get the repair part made (or if it was broke out in one pcs or it is just a crack it is easier) I am in the process of fixing one myself.. only it has about 100 times more damage to it.. If it all works i will let you know what i used..

If you can't fix it, check the classifieds on this site. I just got a mint dash on here not too long ago, for a good price too.

This is how I fixed mine(same knee problem due to jealous friend riding in my car).... Try to find some Black glue sticks (they do exist) load them in a gun or just use a lighter on them... melt it into the cracks and find something to smear it in good, then wipe the excess with a flat edge of some sort... after it is totally dry, use a razor blade to shave off excess leftovers

The same question comes up again. How do you bash a dash pad with your knee? I am over 6' and I have never done this, There is really no way to get the pad back to mint condition I purchased a mint one here for $70 shipped and it was mint. Buy a new one and work on the broken one, trust me, once they are broken they will never be the same again.

i played around with the idea of making a fiberlgass 'shell' over my old dashpad.. consisting of sanded bondo, fiberglass, and a nice polish. then, not only did i find cheap plastic dash covers, but i bought an 86. i still think it'd be a neat project, though! =D

i have a NOS OEM dash siting a un open box and 2 other mint dashs
one that's been in the car since it rolled off the assumable lines and is in MINT (don't be Julius of me though) has anyone thought about just getting some thin leather or what ever stuff that is that's like leather and just wrap the hole dash in that it would cover up the cracks

I saw something on ebay one day like what your talk about Needforspeed, they wanted like 80-100 i think for them. Looked decent, it was a vinly/leather (can't remeber) cover that fit snug over the dash pad.

Soon someone is going to have to do something about these dashes, at this rate we will run out eventually.

Yep.. i got one mint at the junkyard i set it down and i heard a pop, i already knew what it was that damn coner.its hands down the easyist part to break in the interior. i was flamming pisst. i was thinkin the same how do you fix it. then i found some speical stuff over at the autoparts store that fixes it.. but i didn't bother since mine is so small.

By the way i am a fat kid that has my car lowered 2" and has a roll cage w/ racing seats i have the worst time getting in and out.

Haven't had much trouble getting in and out, even when I entered through the window (yes, just like the duke boys). But one day coming home from school (before i replaced the dash pad it has now), i grabbed my book bag from bag it snatched the seat, then popped lose and swung around and hit the corner.

The last time that dash broke i had it out, and I layed up side a door, well my luck the wind blew and it sounded like a gunshoot right behind me. It landed on a cement slab. Man you talking about being sick.

I have thought about a fiberglass pad that padded and wrapped ine leather or vinly one. That basically the dashes, and piece of steel covered in foam and a brittle vinly. The dash i got no you can squeeze and still flex with out breaking.

I have one like that and I'm sending it to the dump (MI). Have one that is mint so I'm gonna use that. Can never repair cracks and have it un-noticeable unless it's a tiny imprefection to begin with. I've tried a few times and it's too much time. And still not ritght.

Can get a mint one at the local scrappers for $27. I usually go that route.

If you ever get a crack go to your local used car dealership. there are professionals who have all the chemicals and the colors to match any interior piece. these are the same people who fix you leather seats. I have worked at dealerships my entire life and a the interior person fixed my fiero dash and it was mint. they even have the tools to maintain the texture.
