Finally got myself an Iroc grille at the junkyard, $3.55, now my question is. The black color, is it the same as used on the black headlight housings on the Iroc/Z28's ?

Yes I know one's glossy black plastic while the other one is actual paint, but still a question regarding the finish.

I'm considering doing the headlight housings bumper black, since this will be the color of the bottom part of my body anyway rather soon.

 

If the grill plastic is good, gloss paint looks a bit better, but most of the used grills will have surface cracks and look pretty rough when shined up. A semigloss black on both headlight pockets and the grill looks fine.

 

Well I may be able to polish the grill pretty darn good... but if not yeah maybe use bumper black on both

Wonder how it would look to have bottom bumper black .. headlight housings bumper black.. and high gloss grill hmmmm

 

I sanded my grill with 1200 grit paper then shot it with black then 2 coats of clear over the black. My headlight surround area I painted the same color as the rest of the car. I thought it just lookes better that way. I ran into a guy who did just the opposite of mine and it looked great too. He painted his grill the same color as the car, and painted his healight surrounds gloss black.

My car's color is teal metallic, and I wanted some black on it but in a neat easy to touch up way. That's why I figured bumper black.

I'll agree that gloss black doesn't look bad at all on Camaro's but usually I'm used to seeing more like a metallic paint mixed with matte or satin black as a really deep contrast.

 

how do you get the edges for the headlight pockets? i was thinking of putting them back to black because the previous owner changed them to body color.
