I am buying the aftermarket ABS plastic headliner on hawks gen for my 83 camaro T-top and was wondering how good they are?

They are awesome, one of the best restoration products for our cars! You will run into a dome lamp fit issue but it's easily overcome.

The manufacturer thought the dome light mounts backward. You can redrill the holes for the mounting pins and move them 1/4" forward, mount the domelamp backward, or upgrade to a map/domelamp from a Buick.
i currently have a map/domelight it has map lights are the ones from a buick diff.?
add 1 without the map lights.

My car I just bought has the plastic headliner. Very nice and sturdy. I just got the dome light w/ map lights from the junkyard and put it it. I needed to cut the plastic to get it too fit in.
Cutting the plastic is a bit of a pain though. A knife with a serrated edge would be ideal.

will the stock domelight(with map lights) from his camaro work?

I am a family man and dont have the money to spend on a new headliner and dont have one in my car now.....has anyone every made one for the car completely from scratch?
well i completely recovered mine today, its not really that hard to do, i maybe spent a total of $45, ur best bet is to get one at a salvage yard, there pretty cheap there if ya can get a half decent 1.

The headliner will need to be modified to make it work, if it looks like the one in this thread...Originally Posted by 84 Trigger

when you get the ABS headliner, are all the holes for sun visors and the done light already cut, or do you have to cut them?
Looks great, this is on my list of things to get done in the next couple pay checks, so I'll be ordering one too in the next week or so.

u have to cut them out but i installed one but the sunvisor brackets dont really line up. the dome light u have to mount backward and if u have map lights u have to get a plain domelight.

Alright cool, I was wondering because I'd like to get rid of the sun visors. Cutting for the dome light wont be bad, I think I can handle that.

on the plastic board they are but the material has to be cut and maybe some modifing, the domelight if you have the map lights or upper consil have to do some extra cutting but if you have the regular dome light it will work but have to mount it backwards like mine had the map lights so i went to the junkyard and got the regualr one and mounted it backward as you prob seen it the pics above and i did have problems with the sun visor holes were to small the screws wouldnt go in so ether dont cut the sun visor holes out or make them a lil bigger but check and make sure be4 cutting you dont want to cut it to bigg but its VERY sturdy and you can bend it any way you want and it wont breakOriginally Posted by unklechuckles19

How long did it take you to install it? I have the hard top and it took me about 15min to install, but i reopolstered it from the original board.

Thanks for the help guys. I feel a bit better about doing this now.
I too tried to re-cover the old headliner, but the old board was so brittle that between removing it from the car, and getting all the old fiberglass and glue off, it just crumbled into pieces. I figure if I'm going to re-do the headliner, I might as well just get the ABS and get it over with.

Yea, it was either goign to be Hawks, because I've heard nothing but praise for Bruce, the owner, and his staff, or I was going to get it from Jims85IROC, I believe thats his user name. He has his own store and sells alot of interior pieces including the ABS headliner, so one or the other.
