RH quarter panel fix. expensive?
this is the damage to my 1989 firebird formula:
http://iris.nyit.edu/~ddicandi/06.26...arter%20panel/
my body guy told me $550 to fix it with new welded in metal, and primer..... no paint. is this a ripoff from what you can see in the pictures?? should i search around? or does it sound about right? thanks!
bye the way, that black on the inside, is from primer that i sprayed on it after i sanded it down a little to try to stop the rusting.......

it was in the wheel well, and on the outer of the quarter. i had it done already, costed 250 for metal to be welded on the inside, and outside, then primered. looks real good. thanks for the response though

lol.....
i would
1)grind down all the metal
2)cut even squares out with a plasma cutter.
3)get some navel jelly or a rust converter to put on it.
4)then i would get the 2 part structural adhesive instead of welding it. The glue is strong and easier then welding.
5)then "kitty hair"fiber filler and glazing putty.

I have the same problem with my car. It has a hole in the wheel well, and a bit of rust on the lip of the quarter panel. Are the processes you described hard to do Formula1988?

actually i didnt get a chance to take any pictures, b/c in addition to the quarter panel, i also had new weatherstripping and a center molding piece put in..... but the moron didnt use ANY adhesive glue at all..... so it leaked worse than when i brought it in. i had to bring the car back to him today, he said he's going to bring it to a specialist....... anyway, ill take pics when i get it back i suppose
he said he's still gonna charge me whatever the specialist charges him to do the job properly..... unblievable.
