car accident... time to repair

Last night I went to Island Dragway in western NJ, near the PA border. I was having a great night. I hit 14.5s in my mostly stock Trans Am.

On the way home, we were travelling in a pack. My buddies in a GTO and an Srt4 neon and myself in my GTA. My buddy in the neon stopped short to get a light, and i slammed on the brakes. The problem was, the tip of my right foot hit the gas, so I started burning out as I was breaking, thus doubling my stop time. I rear ended him.

His car was FINE! My car on the other hand, did not fare so well. I'm extremely worried about my car.

I think I need a new hood, front bumper, and driver's side fender. Any ideas where to get prices on NOS parts? I was also thinking about a carbon fiber hood instead of a stock one, but I'm worried about fitment issues.

I went from mint 50,000 mile GTA to an accident in a split second... all because I couldnt move my foot over one more inch

P.S. Does anyone know any good body shops in the NJ, NY, PA area?

Unfortunately, I dropped the car off at home, and I'm at school... hopefully this weekend I'll get some pix. Oh, and my headlights were up when the front bumper got smashed in. Now the driver's side light is stuck up. Also, the driver's side fender is pushed back, so I can only get in/out thru the passenger side door.

His bumper got scratched, that was all. He wasn't even annoyed. My nose slid under the a$$ of his car.

Hmm sounds familiar. This is my son's car with about the same damage. I bought a combination of used and aftermarket parts from Hawks Thirdgen, new bumper cover, new core support (from GM), then used hood, fender and those pieces under the bumper. Hawks was good even though the body shop said the hood they sent had to many wavy indentations in it and couldnt be uses. They credited my account and I wento to a local junk yard and bought a decent Transam hood. The whole thing cost about $4500. The car only had like 30,000 original miles on it so it was worth it. The other drivers insurance paid, but the declared it totalled so I ended up having to get a salvage title.

Used parts can be iffy but the estimate for just new parts from GM (no labor) was over $6000.

Good luck

Yup, just saw a rear ender couple weeks ago and while the one car looked perfect, the S-10's front was banged up a bit. No modern car goes away with "just a scratch" from a hit hard enough to wrinkle sheet metal.

bottom line... i need to fix my bird... it's mint.

I'm really leaning towards new NOS parts. I heard of fitment issues with aftermarket parts, so I dont think Hawks is for me. Any other ideas where I can order from? Direct from GM will kill me on the price.

go with used GM parts. at work when someone wants to save a lil or if its all insurance will pay for we use aftermarket parts. they r really hit or miss. usually a miss for fitment of bumpers and fenders. check out the yards, or hit up hawks, he sells used parts. i can garentee u that some parts ur gonna need have prolly been discontinued.

Theres a couple good body shops here in Stroudsburg that I've heard about. One guy I know personally does EXCELLENT work, Bilt-Rite Restorations in Broadheadsville fixed my dads Lincon LS when I backed it into a tree; you could never tell it was hit. PM me and I'll get you the details.

Mikes Auto Body in Washington is a pretty good shop. They seem to do good work. I'm bringing my truck to them for a repaint (dumb a##es keyed my brand new truck) when I get some cash flow.
