Mounting Rocker panels on 87-Sport Coupe??
Yeah it is me again guys....I have more questions about mounting gfx...
Today I was planning to mount and drill holes for my rocker panel...But i don't understand how it is going to be mounted...The is some holes on the upper side that i don't know how you can screw anything in it...there isn't something on the backside...I'll show you with pictures:

How can I screw anything into theese??.....They are just in the free air when it is pushed on to the fenders...

It is easier to see here when I'm holding the rocker panel in to the car...
Is this the right position??...How can I screw anything down in those holes then??..That one that is yellow rings around???..Mayby it is something wrong with the mounting...I don't know but I really need help..

Cars that came with ground effects from the factory have a bracket added to the rocker panels that the piece sits on. This is what you would attach to through the holes you have pointed out.

it's not absolutely needed but would probably be a good idea. Though I'm not sure how easy they are to find ( especially given your location ), and it's not something that bolts on. It's spot welded at the factory so removing one would be some work.
You might be able to fashion your own brackets easier.

ok...woow...I have never heard of it so it was very nice of you to mention it...To avoid welding in the first beginning then I think I will onlyd use the bolts under and see if that's enough...
Re: Mounting Rocker panels on 87-Sport Coupe??
I just realized that I was missing this bracket also.
at the tail end of the GFX toward the rear wheel. Does this little tab go through the car? and mount with a clip? http://chris.caraudiocentral.net/ima...ro/rearGFX.JPG
Can someone post a pic of how the top and also the bottom screw are suppose to look/mount too.
With the door closed, do you see the top screws? If I had a closeup pic of how these mount, it might make more sense.

Since I don't have the bracket, and I'll need to make one. What does anyone suggest I use to make it?
Anyone have a pic of the bracket too? Just to get an idea of how it mounts to the car?

Looks like we have the same problem cdoyle...
I have found myself something that I could make brackets out of.
Just a regular angle of steel that I get on a shipyard that I work on...
They are about 30mm X 30mm X 3 mm
I have planned to weld these on the rocker side of the car.
Then it is going to be easy to screw the rocker panels on...
In other words I think I finally have plan...for once..

I didn't even know there was suppose to be a bracket until I put it up next to the car and went hmmmm.

Here you go gentleman, hope this helps. The screws in the rocker do show when done. Make sure you use screws that have a washer (preferably rubber) the same size as the larger hole indentation and it will look fine.

Re: Mounting Rocker panels on 87-Sport Coupe??
It simply slides right into the rear bumper and is held in place with the 1 screw from the bottom. You can see the 2 holes in the pic.

Oh,cant quite tell on the pic,
but for the side skirt near the back tire. On the skirt thier is a tab, does that go through the car and hook with a clip? or does that tab just rest against the body used a s spacer or something?
Thanks again

Re: Mounting Rocker panels on 87-Sport Coupe??
The large tab on the bottom just bolts to the bottom of the quarter. No spacer.
Make sure you get all the metal pieces that go with all the skirts also!
One is shown in this pic. You should have 6 total.

Here is a pic
The GFX I got, had a little clip thing on it, which lead me to believe it pushed through the body, and cliped from inside. To keep it tight against the car, but wasn't sure.

Re: Mounting Rocker panels on 87-Sport Coupe??
You should have a metal piece that slides into the skirt just like the one in the pic above but shorter. You then tighten that through an access hole which is behind some rubber seal by the rear seat. You must take the seat out to access this hole.

Thanks for the pics, ya didn't get those, makes sense seeing how they look in yours.
Looks simple enough to make tho, thanks again for the pics. Those help so much.
