Body Reinforcing Areas?

Hi all, I want to drop anywhere from 300 to 400RWHP in my 84 T.A but before I do this I want to know what the weak areas are of these cars (Where I will need to reinforce) Im good with welding and I also know someone who owns a car hoist so I can get under it easly.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: Body Reinforcing Areas?

Other common things are strut tower braces and steering braces. You can probably find a ton of pictures of strut tower braces on here, I'm not sure if you'll find any pictures of steering braces. They should be easy enough to fab up though.

Re: Body Reinforcing Areas?

You could fab up some sfc's with some 2 inch square tubing, hooking together the front and rear subframes. You may have to bend it some if you don't want to cut the floor for a straight shot through. You can weld the stock lower contol arms up into a solid box. A brace joining the front fenders together shouldn't be hard to work up. Also, adding poly bushings in place of the stock rubber bushings can add more responsiveness to the chassis at the expense of noise, vibration and harshness.

Re: Body Reinforcing Areas?

I have picked up a set of SFC's from someone here is Aus (yankeecarman from www.camaro-firebird.org) and im going over the body atm while the car is striped, Im replacing almost all of the firewall/drain area because of rust (from the RHD conversion). I have pictures on my www.84transamresto.blogspot.com sight.
Here is a pic of the SFC's

Re: Body Reinforcing Areas?

I don't know about the ground clearance with them installed, There is a Turbo Camaro owned by Droopz from Aus and he is using the same SFC's.
Link to Droopz's car: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/powe...iry-turbo.html
I havent heard any problems from him regarding to body twist or ground clearance tho.

Re: Body Reinforcing Areas?

Venom, those are some bad *** SFC. Yankeeman must have his hands full. What was the cost? Is there another way to get ahold of him aside from signing up for a membership at another site. I wonder if he would ship to the US.

Re: Body Reinforcing Areas?

There is a link under the picture (above) but here it is:
http://members.optushome.com.au/ozfbody/dallas/sfc.htm
and here is his E-mail:
yankeecarman@yahoo.com.au
he will be able to give you all the info you need.

EDIT: cost was $400AUD+Shipping ($348.84USD).
Im droping an easy 400HP+ infront of my trans and i want to know the body will take a fue hard launches without twisting (more power to the ground) and these look like they will give the car what it needs to do this.

Re: Body Reinforcing Areas?

Hey I found somthing interesting while cleaning out the floor pan for a respray.
I removed all the body sealer (black) stuff that looks to be from the factory and i found a 3 to 4mm gap betwene the floor pan and the box frame under the door it looks only be joined where the seat rails go across from the center console, Is this ment to be there or not?
If it is normal it is no wonder these things twist so mutch when you put abit of power in them. Im going to get about 3 pieces of 1mm sheet metal @ 150x50mm slightly bent and weld it in over the gap on eatch side of the car to fix the floor to the outer frame for more stringth.
