hood for supercharged 82 Z28 HELP!

I am having a bite of a dilemma.
My 142 supercharger isn't high enough to put a scoop on it and I don't want another tall cal hood.
Has anyone ever had a similar problem?
Has anyone seen a shaker hood on a thirdgen before?
I want to minimize the size of the obstruction to my vision since I plan on autoXing the car.

Re: hood for supercharged 82 Z28 HELP!

Im having a similar problem right now.

If you current hood isnt worth that much to you, try this.
I put little bits of tall play-dough on the points where i thought my air cleaner was hitting. I cosed the hood and figured iout where it was worse.

Next i took some chalk, and stuck it in the play dough and again tried closing the hood. Applied a bit more pressure to make a mark.

I ended up cutting out an entire circle, all the way through. When i was done, i realized i could have gotten away with just cutting the hood's frame in certain places.

If you dont like this idea, ive seen some ideas where the two blisters are cut out to make a shaker. The spot in the middle will also need to be cut out, but sometimes it can be left.

I just realized:
The Z-28 hoods, dont have a frame....
in this case, id prolly cut out the blisters in a nice shape. I dont recommend this however, because you will have probs with rain.

I'm could really use a picture of possible solutions
shaker using roots supercharger

There are 1/2" cowls available somewhere... all the way up to 7". Im not in a position to recommend any as ive never purchased one, but try the review boards.

Has anyone tried to mount a shaker on a supercharger with a small air cleaner?
will it fit?

I've seen Firebirds with shakers, but not Camaros. But this will give you the idea.

Re: hood for supercharged 82 Z28 HELP!

I don't even remember where I got it. I see pics on the 'net I like, and I copy them. Sorry, can't be more helpful.

Re: hood for supercharged 82 Z28 HELP!

It looks like it has a bit of a rise. If your car is SD or carbed, you could "reverse scoop" your hood skin down, for an opening, and zero hood rise.

I hear ya on the cowl induction on autocross...My wife's car was that way.

Re: hood for supercharged 82 Z28 HELP!

A simple 1 to 2 inch fiberglass cowl will clear the motor, supercharger, and standard air filter. It will not impede your vision that much.

Re: hood for supercharged 82 Z28 HELP!

I have lowered seats so my head doesn't hit the roll cage and the 3 inch hood I tried made it next to impossible to see the right front of the car.
got to love fixing one problem to cause another

Re: hood for supercharged 82 Z28 HELP!

Depending on the rise...........one of these, if it just came above the hood, might look cool. http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=195284

Just an idea.
