Ahhh, Stupid Wheel Stops!!!!

Last night I parked at Dominos to pick up a Pizza and my front bumper hit this tall wheel stop. Chips and scratches all over the passenger side bumper chin.

Whats the best way to fix this without taking it to a body shop?

It's not that bad, but it bugs the hell out of me!

Re: Ahhh, Stupid Wheel Stops!!!!

auto supply store should have touch up paint. Get a small tube of that and a small tube of clear coat. If you really are worried about it get a small tube of primer as well. Depends on how much time you wanna put into it.

So do I apply the primer and then the paint and then wetsand and then apply the clearcoat, does that sound right or wrong?

What grit should I wetsand?

Re: Ahhh, Stupid Wheel Stops!!!!

I've tried doing the primer thing...by the time you get your paint on there and then clear coat...its like a little bump (it gets too thick), i've never had any luck with primer like that. I've also never had any issues cleaning the spot very well and just putting the paint in that spot, by the time i put in clear it was flush. I would suggest 400+ grit wetsand, one more tiny coat of clear...and then prob a 1000 grit wetsand with some buffing is what others have said to do, but i've stopped with just the 2nd dab of clear coat and it came out nicely. I've done it with success but it just takes time. Being it's down there i would just do as much as you think is necessary, it's not going to be entirely noticable, and it's still going to bug you because you know it's there, but it will look good.

Our cars are notorious for having this type of thing happen, one good way to avoid it after you get it fixed is to back into any parking spot with the parking blocks. Sure it won't be as convienant and may take a few extra seconds but it's worth it as a little added insurance. Good luck.

Re: Ahhh, Stupid Wheel Stops!!!!

I seem to think you had a thread like a month ago about you just got your car painted, correct? if that was you, you probably have left over paint and clear, so a shop, or even a tech high school could repaint the front spoiler fairly cheap.

Re: Ahhh, Stupid Wheel Stops!!!!

Usually do, but I was in a hurry. Won't do that again, I'll take the time to park right! Just had it painted a couple of months ago, too. We need a crying smilie so I can insert it here, lol.

You posted right before me Tmic87TPI. Yes, yes I did just have it painted.
I'll have to talk to the guy that painted my car and see if he still has any paint left.
