Door hinges

I have a 1991 camaro and the doors have become really hard to open and close, and the bottom of the door is scraping on the body when you try to close it. I know this is a problem that happens with alot of camaros cause my friend has an 89 and his doors have similar problems. Does anyone know how to fix the problem or if i need new hinges? And how difficult it is to fix this.

Re: Door hinges

you need new door pins, the lower are available at your local auto store, the tops are available at TDS (see side sponsors).

edit: Im pretty sure this is what you need http://www.top-downsolutions.com/pro...products_id=33

Re: Door hinges

Yeah, Tmic is right, definitely pins and bushings. You might try doing the bottoms first, since they are easily (and inexpensively) replaced and see if this corrects your problems before you go and buy the TDS upper kit. I only had to do my lowers, as my top hinges didn't have any slop in them.

Re: Door hinges

how exactly do you put them in? do you just remove the lower side panel and then you can see the pins and just unbolt them?

Re: Door hinges

to do the bottom you just hammer the old pin out, take the old bushings out, then put the new in. to do the top you need to take the door off (or at least I did), grind out the old pins, and put in the new ones.

Re: Door hinges

It really helps if you have the front fender off when you replace the door hinge parts. And a dremel tool.

I recommend spending the extra cash and getting the grease-able door hinge repair kits, the spring removal tool, and the door alignment tool from TDS. Thats if your hinges are shot.

Re: Door hinges

I have seen an air hammer used to push the top hing in a adjust the door up so that it does not sag. This may work for you and it will not cost you like the hinges.

Re: Door hinges

If there is a lot of play(you can actually move the door up and down when the door is open), at least one of the bushings in the hinges is shot and the other bushings probably aren't that great.
