Well, here are some progress pics of my now pushing three year project. Some before, during, and after shots...the paint was peeling, the interior was gray and poopy, and the engine was wrong and had a spun main bearing. But all is well now, and it is very close to complete now:

Sorry for any dial up users...though I doubt any exist anymore ;-p

Some more...One more after this...

That looks really cool man. One question though, (unrelated) what is it about TA's that the hood looks like it isn't closed all the way from some angles? In one of your pictures (front view) it looks like it has been lowered but not latched, and in the one of the others it looks fine.

Nice job, great improvement!

I just used PPG K-36 primer...no additives. I could have used a flex agent in the primer and paint but didn't as they tend to harden eventually anyway and would still crack if leaned on or flexed after a year or so as the flex agent cures to a hardened state over time.Originally Posted by Tmic87TPI

Some of those pics, the hood isn't closed all the way. The final pics it is...plus there is some room to move those hood stopper bumpers under the hood to adjust how high/low the hood sits in the front and on the sides if it is out of adjustment.Originally Posted by jccaclimber

I would have kept the gray, but it was in horrible shape anyway and stained and smelled bad from the leaking t-tops. Besides, the black went just as well with the blue as the gray did, so I figured what the hey...plus I'm partial to black :-pOriginally Posted by Arizona IROC

Very nice car, that blue is awesome.
Is that how you painted your rims or did you take a different route?
(Referring to what you said in my thread.)

well to me judjing from the side/angle shots appears to be the original.
Scrolling down from pic 1 number 22 has a noticiable bend just in front of the fuel door.
Which to me has original (rubber style) written all over it.

That would be a correct assessment. It is the original spoiler...most everything is original/cleaned up/OEM replacement for the most part.

Not sure which thread you are talking about...I didn't paint the rims on this car. I did notice doing a quick search to see what thread you meant that there is another "creepingdeath" member on the forum, but without the "94" at the end...maybe it was him?Originally Posted by Parasoth

good job- why did you leave the handles in
Quote:
Unfortunately, the car had to be driveable and operational to drive on the road and I had time constrictions that only allowed me to remove what i did without running out of my time frame. I BARELY got it done within that time alloted too. I wanted to remove the fenders, handles, glass, pull the motor, and do it all 100% properly, but I just didn't have the time. Plus, the handles didn't have and rust or issues that required attention, so it didn't kill me to leave them in...the mirrors on the other hand... Little rust starting under the passenger side one, so I'm glad I pulled them ;-pOriginally Posted by jamon8

looks great, around how much did you spend on supplies?
Quote:
I used Omni single stage paint and had some good primer (K-36 from PPG) at the shop I work at, so when all was said and done, I probably spent about $500 to $550 in supplies. Including sandpapers, paint, hardener, reducer, tape, masking supplies, etc. I could have gotten a cheaper paint and primer combo and it would have been less or gone higher and been more, but I picked a nice middle of the road single stage. Base/clear job would have been more and I also have zero painting experience so I didn't want to go down the clear coat road ;-pOriginally Posted by 1987_Z28

Wouldn't of had to do the paint job if the Californias weren't so cheap with the water based paint they used to reduce pollution. Just a little knowledge I read up on in some unknown website
Anyway
and

Anyway

good job man. a picture is realy worth a thousand words. you just gave me a few good ideas on masking for paint on my own car. i also like what you did under the hood. matching valve covers with the intake plenum looks real clean. having the windshield washer and coolent resevoirs clean makes a big difference.

Just wondering, what color is that called, I know its blue but mid night blue or what, Cuz i love that color on camaros/firebirds
It's just a standard 80's to 90's bright metallic blue. I will get the exact name off the label and the number if it has it listed on the label when I get home and post it. The silver was just a random silver that I thought went with the blue...once again puicked off a sheet by eye to be as close as possible the original color.

Alright, the paint label says it is "OMNI AU" MTK single stage paint. Color is "Brite Blue Poly" ; OEM code: WA9591 Brand Code: 4136; Mixing Scheme: OMNI AU (MTK); and I purchased it from "Terry's Auto Supply - Stuart, Florida" It is a Urethane paint and ran about $177 a gallon. At least this way if you wanted to know anything else you can call them directly and ask or at least have your paint shop call this one to make the same color if you wanted. Like I said though, it was just a basic GM metallic blue right off the GM sheet for these year cars and I eye balled it from the good paint spots previously on the car. These T/A's also came in a midnight blue on silver ground F/X scheme.
