AC Box/Blower Motor Removal

I was looking at the passenger side firewall on my car today and when I pulled the insulation off a little bit, I was pleasantly surprised by a 2x4'' hole in the firewall directly below the blower motor. Not too sure how I am going to fix that one, but first things first, I have to get the blower motor and ac box out.

After playing around with it for quite some time, I failed to get the ac box or blower motor off of the firewall. I removed all the bolts in the area inside the car (including the 2 behind the flap of insulation) and also removed the bolts in the engine bay. The boxes don't even feel lose at all.

Is there something special to getting these things out? I searched for about an hour and only found stuff about doing ac conversions/delete . Any help would be much appreciated.

the gasket behind it may be stuck. Make sure you have all the bolts out, and give it a good smack and it should come loose. Its a 2 pc box, i think you can get it appart with the AC parts still inside, i never tried

Re: AC Box/Blower Motor Removal

Some are accessed from the interior of the car

One hard to get bolt is inside the AC box and you must remove the upper section and pull the dryer out to get it

The lowermost bolt near the exhaust is usually troublesome.
Its a stud threaded into the plastic while you must remove the nut in the engine bay
The stud will often strip out the plastic and just spin making things difficult
Most people just say F-it and rip the box out when this happens

Re: AC Box/Blower Motor Removal

Sorry to bring the thread back from the dead, but I finally had a chance to get back to this today. I took off the top part of the AC box but then noticed that the entire box is somehow plastered to the firewall. Is this some kind of sealing/mounting adhesive?

My main question is, can I get the box off without damaging it and put it back on with not to many problems?

Thanks

The sealer foam is in there

If its stuck on there you can use a putty knife to separate it

Its not that big of a deal

Ok, thanks for the help. I tried pulling the box off and saw the firewall try to come with it and had one of these moments: . I'll just use a putty knife then

Re: AC Box/Blower Motor Removal

If you have a blow dryer or a heat gun use it, it will make the removal much easier and less likely to break the box.

Re: AC Box/Blower Motor Removal

I ended up just using a chisel to side between the box and the firewall to get it off. It went a lot smoother than I thought that it would.

I noticed that there seems to be a gasket for the upper section of the box, is this something that I can purchase to replace the old one?

Thanks again
