Fog Lights

I bought the Sylvania 880st, and I looked at the stock one....... no idea how to take it out or put the new one in. The regular head lights were easy to install but these fog lights I dont get.

Re: Fog Lights

there should be a retaing screw on each side the the foglight. take those out and pull the 2 black trim peices out then the foglight should slide out with no problem and u can unhook the lights from the plug and put the new ones in. i dont think there was any change in the folights form an 88-92. they r rectangle right?

Re: Fog Lights

yeh, they are rectangular.

I took the fog light out of the glass box [dont know what its called] and It doesent have a plug, it looks like 1 wire is soldered on to the back of the light and then theirs another wire from the car going to the actual glass box [looks like a ground]

The new fog light I got which is what they said at the store I would need for my car has a plug on the back, the stock one looks like its just soldered on or something.

And those screws are hard as heck to get too, I think I striped it, lmao.

Re: Fog Lights

the wire coming out of the foglight should run into a plug under the bumper or somehwerre that u can undo and on mine theres a retaining clip on the back holding the bulb in.

Re: Fog Lights

Yeh theirs a clip holding the bulb in. I took that off and took the bulb out, but I just couldent figure out how to take the bulb off its metal base.

Plug under the bumper?
i just got 2 wires, no plug anywhere. The foglight I bought has a plug and I just dont see where I plug it in at.

Re: Fog Lights

follow the red wire that attaches to the bulb. eventually u will run into a plug unless someone cut it out and just sotered the 2 wires together. if thats the case cut the wire and put a u clip on the end. if i can take some pics and ill be able to tell u what to do from there

Re: Fog Lights

Yeh ill take some pics and show you later today or tomorrow what it looks like. I only looked at the passenger side, maybe the driver side is different or something.

But on the passenger side its just 1 wire on the back of the light and that goes through some metal sheet. The other wire comes from through that metal sheet also and is connected to the metal in the back of the glass box, doesent even touch the light.

Its always simple little things like replacing this fog light that seem to give the most problems, hah hah.

But the Sylvania silver star headlights look great!

Re: Fog Lights

Alright well I jacked the car up, and looked back there.

It runs back to an adapter way back in there and it doesent fit the new fog lights

I guess if I can find the right plug and just wire it in I would be all good. But it doesent look like the light even fits in the glass box!

Re: Fog Lights

sylvania does make an aftermarket bulb that will fit in there and they are bright as hell. idk if u have Napa's in virgina but i found the bulb u need to fit it and the part number is LMP BP880BK. now that part number may be universal. and really all u need is power and ground to run that bulb so if u can slipce into the exsisting wires that would be great and then either ise a bigger clip or just glue it to the back to the light lol. In most cases u can get them to fit it just takes some hard thinking and grunt work. If u need anything else just let me know
----------
And ill try and get some pics of mine up so u can see how mine is mounted, wired ect.

Re: Fog Lights

Alright, thanks man. Ima unlpug it and splice them into the back of the bulb, then just use hot glue to hot all that together, then ima just get under the car, figure out how far back it has to be to fit in the glass box and hot glue it in place. Then put the glass box on and move on to the other side.

Re: Fog Lights

I got 1 of the 880st's in. Looks great

i just put it in the assembly, hot glued it in place, wrapped electrical tape around it. Cut a little out of the back of where the assembly goes into the car, and it fits. On the passenger side it sticks out a tiny bit now due to the bulb pushing in the back. But you cant even really notice.

Oh yeh and spliced the wires and connected them to the back of the light. Replacing those bulbs next time should be alot easier.

With my sylvania ST head lights it all looks great. very white and bright.

The reason that bulb doesnt fit is because its not made for a firebird fog light. If you look at the old bulb and the new one they are totally different. The original bulb is held on by a wire which connects to a spade plug inside that mesh wrap. All you do is pull it out and it should slide back in when you replace them.I dont think the bulb can just be replaced as ive always cracked them trying to get them out.You have to get the whole piece with the wire on it.The sylvania bulbs you got will however fit camaro fog lights from 85-97 without a problem.

Yeh, the bulbs were totally different. But as you can see from the pictures I just used some hot glue and tape to hold it in and wired it up and its working : )

Next time ima get the right bulbs though, H3's I believe. Its gonna sucks cleaning all that hot glue out though

Oh, lol. I find the fogs almost pointless, I only got them on for the coolness of how they look.

We barely get fog and my headlights do just fine at nighttime and in fog, I just always have my fog lights on with my headlights so I can look good in my ******* mobile for the ladies, lol.

Ive heard that yellow is more visible in the fog anyway.

Re: Fog Lights

Wow, you guys are waaaay off on this one. The bulbs cannot be removed from the harness that they are seated on. What you really needed for an exact fit was the Sylvania H3 or H4's. They come in 55 watt and 100 watt combinations and they are about $5 each.

You can also use the Cyber Whites from Wal-Mart at 39.95 for a set, which include the housings which are almost a direct fit for the 'birds.

JB.
