What do I expect from a little KID...You don't like? Fine. Say so. But the
part is totally uneeded. The internet makes everyone brave hiding behind screen names.

Doesn't look totally out of place. Bit I do prefer original if I were to decide.

The stock reverse lights are still up there, but with the black grid in them, they are virtually useless.

What about putting them down in the ground effect portion, and farther outboard? My thinking is that would sort of match the way they are in the front. I think it would look good too if they were molded in a couple inches, also like the way the fronts are.

Re: GTA fog lights as reverse lights....
My first PS was below that line/seam....Didn't look right to me, so I moved them up. Too much open space above, so I moved the up. I could move them outwards..

I didn't realize it at first, but we're looking at photoshop here? You haven't actually done this yet, right?
Because that would mean it's not too late...Don't do it. It are the not look good.
Fog lights are really too bright to use as reverse lights. The stock lights are plenty bright. They can be seen from many hundred yards away, which is more than enough.

If the stock lights were bright, I wouldn't even be thinking about this...They may be SEEN from way away, but that doesn't you can SEE way away real good, while backing up.
The pic I used is OLD (notice it still has the original 3rd gen spoiler, not my 4th gen wing?) and the tail lights have recieved a good polishing since the pic.

Re: GTA fog lights as reverse lights....
I've never thought of reverse lights as providing illumination, like headlights. I've always thought of them as signaling driver intent to reverse, in the same way as turn/brake lights signal intent to turn/slow down. Maybe I thought that way because I've never had a car with bright reverse lights, and most of them have had tinted windows, which pretty much negates rear night vision anyway. I've just gotten in the habit of riding the brake pedal, to illuminate with brake lights when needed.
If additional reverse illumination is what you're looking for, I would think this would do it. Have you tried putting brighter bulbs in the stock reverse lights? If it were me, I would go there first.
If you do put them on the car, I would go for lower, and farther outboard (just my $.02)

Re: GTA fog lights as reverse lights....
You live in town, don't you? I did too, in an apartment, until about 3 months ago. Now I have a house. Backing up was never a problem, in town, with all the lights.
Now I'm out in the county, very few street lights & I back into my car port, not pull straight in..
I've been wanting brighter lights & I have a spare set of GTA fog lights, so the thought of putting them to use occured to me last night.

Re: GTA fog lights as reverse lights....
Have you seen the bulbs that are supposed to be twice as bright? I had them on my jeep cherokee and I had the windows tinted and I saw squat at night even with the streetlight at the end of my driveway. I put those in and it became marginally better, but enough for me to see.

Hey Stephen, have you considered trying to cut the reverse light reflector and somehow mounting the fog lights behind the lenses?
either that or some super bright LED's maybe?
not sure if those would be bright enough for you though...

Re: GTA fog lights as reverse lights....
Maybe a motion sensor in your carport would help...
I like how you think, but I do not like they way they look. Maybe a different style of light or maybe put them and somehow hide them with plexi glass. I dont know. Square lights would be the way to go, but I dont know what it is about they way they look. Maybe get rid of your third brake light and make it into a reverse light.
Since your GTA is white, they third brake light might look good as a reverse light.

Re: GTA fog lights as reverse lights....
I live 2 miles past the end of the pavement. It sucks to drive an fbody on a gravel road.
My driveway, and the 'bird's parking spot is such that I pull in forward with clear field of vision, and when backing out, there's nothing behind me for me to even turn around to look at...just clear open space.

Re: GTA fog lights as reverse lights....
Actually, my whole house is remote controlled lights! Not just a motion sensor, but a handheld remote control. The range isn't real far, but I get about halfway into my driveway, then I can turn on mycar port lights, from inside my car. That helps, but I better hope I'm lined up to begin with pretty close, or I'll be pulling forward towards the road, lining up better, then backing up again.I like how you think, but I do not like they way they look. Re: GTA fog lights as reverse lights....
Fog lights in the rear is actually a great idea. For the past year and a half I've been trying to come up with a hide-away design for a pair of bright lights in the rear of my car. I don't necessarily need them for backing up (my reverse lights don't work since the tranny swap anyway) I just want them for people that like to get right up behind me and hit me with the high beams.

!i have the same problem in my area
they just dont seem to care that their precious cadalacs headlights are blinding you!
already took care of that on the front of my car, i turned my fog lights up and to the left a little, just enough to where if i flash em a couple times it gets the ******* to turn their high beams off
my brights just arent bright enough to do the job, lol
but thats just not the topic at hand now

back on subject now..
Stephen- you know, on a second glance, your first photoshopped picture you started the thread with actually looks pretty good

Re: GTA fog lights as reverse lights....
I see the purpose of it, to have better lighting when backing up. However, I've seen H3 bulbs retrofitted into a normal bulb housing on ebay before(not homemade either) made for reverse lights. You could even make your own using 100+ Watt H3 or H4 bulbs. For the short amount of time you run reverse lights there would not be a heat problem. You may want an upgraded wire harness(if you run 100 watts). I'm just saying there are simpler solutions out there for brighter reverse lights.
Something like this but without the backup alarm on it: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1-Plu...ayphotohosting

Re: GTA fog lights as reverse lights....
Considering my cut & modified harness, for the STS tail lights, cutting the wires isn't a problem for me. Cutting the actual housing themselves would be. I've even got a spare tail light wire harness.
Rear bumper cover cutting....I've already got a spare front & rear bumper cover spares, in white no less, and a full set of ground effects, also in white. That kindof stuff isMUCH easier to come bythat the tail lights themselves.

Hey Stephen, I know how to remove the grid in the reverse light section without messing up the rest of the grid if you need/want me to. Don't you have a spare set to modify?
