buy a new tire and take it to a gm dealership. most of them have ran into this and have a special tool which gets beat on with a hammer and allows them to take it of. you will have to buy a new lug tho.

Re: Blown Tire! Rim Key?

all of the above , most tire repair shops will have a selection of sockets to fit . i have thrown all i have ever owned away , they are an anti-theft thing . i have replaced with regular lug-nuts . if a crook wants to steal your rims/tires they WILL get them . does not matter what anti-theft device you have on them . best anti-theft is a dog & 12ga. good luck .

Re: Blown Tire! Rim Key?

Some good options here.

I wonder if you could borrow a backwards threaded socket? I think the cheap ones go for $15-$20 if you just want to buy one. But if you have to go to a shop go to a tire shop not the dealer (insert bent over 3rd gen'r pic here)

I hope the car is sitting at home or something.

Hey from Lawrence. I purchased a new car in December and had the dealership replace the lockers with regular old lugs. I agree with Uncle: If a thief wants the wheels badly enough, they're gone regardless.

Re: Blown Tire! Rim Key?

call the auto club and tell them to send someone out with the locking lug nuts tool. they deal with it all the time and they seem to have every locking lug available.
it comes with your membership.

Re: Blown Tire! Rim Key?

The "locks" I have on mine or just torx bit that is missing a point on the star so if I ever lose my key it would be easy to get off. I guess if someone wanted my wheels all the lock will do is get a window busted so they can get the key as everyone keeps it somewhere in the car...

The hammer on a smaller socket works most of the time, or go to a parts store and look at their wheel locks which comes with a key and see if they have one that matches.

Re: Blown Tire! Rim Key?

I had the same problem on my 92 z28. I went to Sears and got a deep well 20mm 1/2 drive socket. Used a hammer to drive it on over the lock until it bottomed out on the exposed threads of the lock. Used a ratchet and extension and removed the lock. Worked like magic and only cost me $9.00. Plus it's a Craftsman, so if it breaks, you get a new one. Way cheaper than a repair shop...
