Headlight question

The headlight covers on my 1992 Firebird pop up when I turn just the parking lights on. I have bushings and getting new gears to install. Should this take care of it or would it be the switch causing it or all of it? Thanks for any info!

Re: Headlight question

That would be in the switch. The headlight motors shouldn't be getting an UP signal, unkess the switch is malfunctioning.

Re: Headlight question

Thanks for your info. I figured it was the switch but wanted some input before buying one.

Re: Headlight question

do you have one motor that is "bad"? if you have one that needs to be repaired then that makes sense why when you hit the drivers and your headlights pop up.

i'll explain. get someone to turn on the drivers and hold the **** of the bad motor so it dosent spin, the heads wont come up. then do this and not hold the ****, he heads will pop up.

ts something to do with this. iv fixed 2 91-92 birds that did this and gave the info to another 91-92 owner and all were consistant. after the motor was fixed thy could turn on the drivers and the heads would stay seated.

BTW your gear will most likely be ok, its usually the lil barrel "bearing" things that crumble and go bad. i have yet to see a bad gear in the many sets i have fixed. the gear issue is a 4th gen thing.

Re: Headlight question

I don't believe a motor is bad that I know of. They pop up fine with the headlights. The ***** on both of them spin freely so I can't manually open either one that way? Would that be the bushings? I have those now just havn't had a chance to put them in.

Re: Headlight question

Both headlights pop up fine. It's when I want to run the parking lights only that the headlights pop up also. They're not on as in burning but pop up. When I hit the parking light button on the switch to the right they pop up. I'm thinking switch but this car only has 105k on it?

Re: Headlight question

RE: My headlight question. I have a remote start installed on my car. When it is remote started the parking lights come on to verify that it's running so you'll know from a distance. When I remote start it the headlights although not on pop up also. This will just wear my motors out and why I want to figure out what to do to fix it. An after market switch is $27 so maybe thats the way to go and see if that is the problem.

Now we KNOW the problem.....

It's not your headlights nor switch....It is the Remote Start install. Obviously whoever installed it, did so incorrectly & when it turns on the parking lights, the UP "signal" is being sent as well. Look into the rewiring the Remote Start corectly.

Re: Headlight question

The lights came up before I had the remote start put in when only the parking light button was pushed.

In that case, it is most likely a short in the switch.

Re: Headlight question

i agree with Stephen. if you have a friend with a bird 87-92, yank his switch and module and pop it into your car to test things. this way your not buying parts you dont need to. there isnt much to the lighting systems in the 87-92 cars. switch, 2 motors, and the relay module on he firewall next to the booster.
its a square simi flat box with 2 stright line plugs. one on top and one just under the other plug and the box slides in and can easily be removed withot tools.

Re: Headlight question

I found a new aftermarket switch for $27 so I'll put that on and see if that will take care of it. Thanks for your info!

Re: Headlight question

I got the switch for my headlights. Question, the switch just plugs in so can I just pull the old one straight out of the dash and plug the new one in without taking the dash a part? Thanks for any info!
