I may be getting a Harwood cowl hood that is pin on, but if I could, Id like to make it a bolt on hood and just use the pins in the front. Is there any way to do this or am I stuck with a lift off hood? If thats the case, how hard is it to install a pin on hood?

 

Nm, found out the underside isnt reinforced, so looks like its going to be a pin on hood.

But couple other questions...

1. Whats the cleanest way to install the hood? Wasnt looking for a pin on hood but the price is right so it will do. Looks like it has a pin in each corner of the hood. Maybe like some flush mounted pin or something? I dont mind the pins in the front, just want something clean in the back incase I get this car nice enough to show.

2. Any special locking pins since I have GTO in the garage, this car sits outside, looking for something that prevents the hood from being stolen. Although unlikely, but gives me some piece of mind.

3. After searching online, looks like dzus fasteners will be the cleanest and sit flush, but is there someway to secure these so no one ends up walking off with my hood?

Get hood locks MR. GASKET makes them for like $20 a set they look clean and lock.

 

Definitely these. They look pretty slick. But according to my buddy that has them, it's a huge pain in the *** to unlock them to get the hood off..

 

Maybe the ones HE has are. The ones I've seen are basically just barrel locks, so it is simply a key of a different shape. Put it in, turn, pull out. No more difficult that a house door key.

Run Dzus & 2 (or 4, one each corner) locking pins & your good to go.

Turning a key in a barrel lock isn't much more trouble than turning a Dzus pin.

 

Its a small pain,you might want to order two sets with the same key if thats possible because having four pins would require two different keys and that would be a much bigger pain

 

Here is how I want my hood to be mounted. Looks really clean and the fasteners sit flush with the hood.



Has anyone done this to a thirdgen? Ive seen write ups on ls1tech about the 4th gens and using premade rails. Do they have this for our camaros and just wondering where everyone attaches the brackets to.

Looks like Dzus fasteners....They work great, used them on lots of drag and race cars... Guess I would prefer having a few more in the front, 'glass hoods get loose quite easy--(Please don't ask how I learned this!!!!)...
