Trans Am Hood Vents????

Okay so my car is getting painted soon and I have some questions, HOW do I REMOVE THE HOOD VENTS IN MY 87 TRANS AM?

The top of the vents seem to be very weak, Idk if I should look for a replacement.. or.. ???

Whats ur guys opinion on what I shud do? I just found an 88 GTA in TOWN That I can part, but the guys kinda stupid, and well, Idk. Anyway, shud I take the vents from this car? Or just the whole hood? How do I remove the vents?

Re: Trans Am Hood Vents????

from the underside there are 2 holes in the hood, with 2 nuts up inside them holding the scoops on, the top end of the scoop just slids in IIRC. but the hole in the hood is usually too small to fit a socket in, unless you can find a really thin wall socket, i believe its 5/8?

if you can get the entire hood cheap, just go for it.

Re: Trans Am Hood Vents????

Alright I will try, But it seemed like the guy was trying to sell me the whole car.. Alot of it is in.. relatively bad shape. Restorable though, BUT I DONT HAVE ANY PLACE TO PUT IT, Littleown what he wants for it. He said about 700 BUCKS. That I dont have. Then again, I would get the whole damn thing If i had a place to put it. Um.

The car has a 350, TPI of course. Not sure of the miles, its really clean, really really clean but he said it didnt run at all. Idk. Im interested in the 350, the hood, and the tail light set, infact, even the rear bumper, but thats really it.

The problem is, my grandpa doesn't want it here, he doesnt want me buying the stuff, and he doesnt understand why I want a rear bumper even though mine is fine! (I want to get these things INCASE, I have this gut feeling that after my car gets all painted and detailed that someone is going to rearend me, and I NEED these things INCASE). Apart from that, I could just be a pack rat!

Umm, This guy really didn't know his *** from his elbow, he said.. "All I know about the car is that its a piece of crap, and it has a HUUUGGEEE engine", haha, I said.. "It looks to be a 1987-1989 Trans Am GTA", and then he popped the hood and I said "Its an 88 I THINK, 350". And he was like "You know alot about these cars?" haha. I want the car, I want the parts, but I'm stuck in a rut and dont know what to do. Im trying to salvage good parts before my car gets painted so I can have some backup parts, or some better parts then what I have so the car can look at its best when its done.

Sorry for the story. Stressing out today. Lol!

If you can buy the whole thing, do it.

What you don't keep for parts (i replaced my front end in 3 days, because I did exactly that....bought a white 89 GTA roller). Between what I've used off it & sold off it, I've easily doubled the $ it cost me to buy in the first place, and I still have more I can sell or use.

I would if I could for sure. The problem is that I am still living at home, and my grandperants (Where my car stays most of the time) don't want a "Pile of crap" sitting in their drive way, they raised hell when I wanted to buy a little S10 pickup, I dont understand why. I'm stressed out because I have like a three week deadline, I found a front bumper.. Its not that good, to replace my not so good one. The Junkyard guy dented it as he pulled it off, it was kind of a krinkle, Its not bad but its not PERFECT now.

My hood lines up wierd. Its hard to explain. The left side of the hood sits a bit lower than the fender, the right side lines up PERFECTLY, and then the rest of it lines up well except RIGHT at the nose of the car, where the bumper cover actually sits a bit above the hood when it goes down, but it lines up with the lights just fine, I will get a pic tommarow. I figured "Hey, if I buy this hood it could solve all of my problems. UGH. I wish I had room.

Hey as stated if you can get the car get it or find someone who wouldn't mind it sitting at there house I'm not sure where you live but if you were close you could leave it at my house.

anyway as far as the body alignment issues read this article http://www.autobody101.com/articles/...el%20Alignment the issue is probably not your hood but more than likely your fenders.

The nuts are 5/8" speed nuts, and no, you cant fit a socket in the hole. I solved this by taking an 11mm socket and grinding six small flats on the outside. The socket then fits INSIDE the speed nut.
