How do I replace the body-side weatherstripping?

I've got a hard top and I'm trying to replace the window weatherstripping on the body side. How do I replace it? Do you guys pull of the black metal strips holding the weatherstripping to the body? Or do you just pull the weatherstripping out of those black pieces?

the weatherstripping on the body that the windows seal against, it is held on by black metal strips. Do I remove the metal strips to replace the weatherstripping?

Your confusing us ! We have NO idea what weatherstrip your talking about!
What part of the car is it on? The door, the top edge of the door, around the windsheild, the hatch or do you mean the bang strip on the SIDE of the car??

A better description, exact location of strip along with year,
make and model would help us help you!

He said the stuff that the window seals against, that means the top of the door.
How much of that crap (well I think it is crap after this many years) is on the side of the car against a window? Seriously easy to figure out.

I've stated twice now, the weatherstripping is attached to the body and the window seals against it. When the windows are all the way up, and the doors are closed the windows seal against it. It is held onto the body with black metal strips. This is the only weatherstripping the window touches.

As stated, it is on the body, not the door, not the top edge of the door, not around the windshield, and not around the hatch. It is ON THE BODY, THE WINDOWS SEAL AGAINST IT. Do the windows seal on the bang strip? No. they do not. So it's probably not them that I'm talking about...

It is a thirdgen, year and make and model do not matter. I believe I described it pretty well.

Sorry to be rude, but seriously....

Re: How do I replace the body-side weatherstripping?

I found an article that answered my question. I do not need to remove the metal strips. Here is a picture of what I was referring to.

Re: How do I replace the body-side weatherstripping?

Your post #9 describes it even better!
Considering your lousy and confusing first posts to exactly what you were talking about the PICTURE describes it exactly !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am sure another member will give you the correct name as I am laughingso hard!

BTW: NOT ALL 3rd gens have that metal strip aka moulding,
rain gutter around the door FRAME thats why I asked YEAR, MODEL, Etc...................

Correct descriptions, designations etc. always help the most!

ANYHOO: it can be EASILY removed with a PRY BAR and BIG
HAMMER !

Good luck!

sonjaab, seriously? Please stop acting that.
He is talking about multiple black ones and not the large one that is not black on the outside. Please note when he uses singular and plural words.

Re: How do I replace the body-side weatherstripping?

WHATEVER !!!!!

There is no need for YOU to get yer Panties in a wad either !

I feel no need to defend any of my posts as I have a brain and skill as well as experience. Read his FIRST post and try and figure it out................

Maybe posting a question like "How do I remove and replace my door frame weather stripping around the top and rear edge of the
door frame and do I have to remove the METAL door edge garnish and drip moulding also" ??????????

As you know (or prob. don't) that most 3rd gens DO NOT
have the drip moulding OR the door frame metal garnish
strip. None of the THREE I owned had it 84/85/87.

ANYHOO Mr Helper...............Why haven't YOU answered his question yet instead of bustin' my ***** ???????????????????

Re: How do I replace the body-side weatherstripping?

My panties are not in a wad. And to be perfectly honest you are acting and typing like a 13 year old. It is not fitting for someone of this community and leaves a bad image of 3rd gen owners. (yes I am serious)
Please stop it. All it does is hurt the community.

As for rereading his fist post; I always knew what weather stripping he meant. However I did not know the removal procedure or what the black strips were since I have not had my interior in that area torn apart yet.

Re: How do I replace the body-side weatherstripping?

It never was a pissing match. And I already said that I did not know what metal he meant. That is why I could offer no help.
I just went out to the car. I thought he meant some internal bits on the inside of the weather stripping securing it. I never looked at the exterior metal close enough to notice that it was in fact two pieces. I always thought it was a single long bent piece.

Ok, is this picture better?

*Edit
Here is another angle.

98% of this thread was completely pointless and could have been avoided.
Hopefully the OP can chime in and clear things up before it gets locked. :/
