TA Clone

So I have an 85 Firebird, and I was wondering if I could attach the skirting, front and rear end to make it look like a TransAm. There is an 87 TA a few miles from were I live with the running gear stripped out of it and the interior is rotted to nothing. But the exterior is in good shape. Or would it be easier to swap my engine and transmission and interior into the car?

Re: TA Clone

just gota drill holes in the door fenders and rear panels for the ground effects and jsut bolt on the bumpers.

pretty easy to do.

then just gota paint the car so all the parts match

Re: TA Clone

a t/a is definitely worth more than a t/a clone in the long run. id swap drivetrain and take the t/a

one would hope but we all should know going into fixing up these cars that we arn't gona make a dime if we tried to sell them.

they are for personal fun and thrills and trying to keep them from the junk yard. thats about it

Cool, thanks for the reply. And yes I know a TransAm would be more valuable. But Bobby speaks truth. We aren't gonna turn profit on these cars unless its a couple hundred dollars. Hell the Bird I'm driving around was only 600 bucks and it only has 80k miles on it.

Re: TA Clone

you should check to see if the ta was a tpi car and if so those cars will be collectible because they only ran a few years and it could be a ws6

I would have to agree with you back in the late 70s my uncle had a shop and all we did was 67-68-69 Camaros and when he shut down we scraped about 15 cars some SS and RS and he is still kicking hiself in the *** for it

Re: TA Clone

I ran the Vin, and it is not a TransAm. It had a V6 from the factory. someone must have stuck TransAm badges on it. Its still the boxed style Firebird. Does this style have a name?

Re: TA Clone

if it were before 87 you could get an SE with a v6 but that was eliminated from the 87s,sounds like someone put ground effects on it. it doesnt have the 16" 50 series wheels on it does it? there are some rare factory freaks out there, like the notchbacks and the t-top recaro editions, but most were trans ams.post a pic if you can. im kinda curious.
