can someone link a web page on how to transform a stock RS hard top to having T tops? it'd be appreciated, with notes where to cut and reinforce please.

Re: Hard Top to a T-Top
that site thread is very helpful, but not what i'm looking for, i'm looking for the possibility of cutting up a hardtop and working the roof into a T top, lining it, welding it, and buying my own T tops, probably plastic ones and putting in my own pins and everything, if there is no safe way to then i probably will do what that guy did.
but i don't think a Hard top has structural integrity if i was to cut it like that, maybe if i welded in bracers though, i may or may not try this attempt, any commentary or suggestions or even links with what i plan on?

Re: Hard Top to a T-Top
IMO you are going to wreck your car if you attempt to make your own T-Tops roof from scratch. The only way to do it and not end up with a hammered car and massive leaks would be to follow Madhatters thread and install a T-Top roof from a donor car OR go buy a T-Top roller and swap everything over OR sell your car and go buy a T-Top car.

T-top roller? i believe my ability in this, i'm in the auto body industry, frame and everything, painting and welding. i won't do it on my own though i want commentary, links and to see others work they have done to a camaro in this manner.

Re: Hard Top to a T-Top
i am not doubting your abilities as a body man, but i am of the opinion that you are going to spend a on of hours doing this only to find that swapping your running gear into an existing t top body would have been way less time consuming. unless your hardtop car is an heirloom or something and you just cant bear to part with it i dont see the point in signing up for that.

Re: Hard Top to a T-Top
3rd gens aren't like the 4th gens that have the "outlines" for t-tops in the hard tops. The best and easiest way is to get the top off of a t-top car and do it like the above thread. I suppose you could take just the t-top portion and section it into the hard top. Either way you go, SFC's would almost be manditory before cutting...in addition to alot of bracing.

Re: Hard Top to a T-Top
i agree, less issues by using donor t-top roof, plus youre using a design that was good enough to last 10 years

Re: Hard Top to a T-Top
okay then, so what about using a T top donor part but cut it on top the pillars and then cutting like above the wind shield, weld all across it, but only the top of the windshield, not to go down to he firewall like the other did? obviously taking off the windshield in the process though

Re: Hard Top to a T-Top
Cut across the pillars, less welding to be done then, not to **** you off but I really do have doubet about your ability to do this. Sectioning bodies with significant damage is relatively common in the body shop world so if you really have a knowledge base there than they are the ones you need to talk to.

Just your last post is enough to convince me that you dont have the experience to pull this off, your tactic would have made for much more work on your part for no reason at all and shows you have no experience in this type of repair/modification.

Re: Hard Top to a T-Top
Unless you're a complete masochist, why do this ? You can have two completed cars for pretty similar amounts of money

Re: Hard Top to a T-Top
the way your want to do it will be a pain in the a**, i would reccomend going to scrap yard with a hack saw and cutting down one with t tops on it. and weld it in place it will work just be careful and all... let me know what you come up with
