Charcoal Grey, Racing Stripes??
Charcoal Grey, Racing Stripes??
I am painting my car very soon, and I need a hand picking out the color for the racing stripes.
I am really digging a dark gray color, but I don't know what color racing stripes I should do. I am thinking like a dark cherry red from Starfire (http://www.paintforcars.com/kits_sta...ymetallic.html), my first choice was a baby blue. I decided against it though, thought it wouldn't mesh very good. If you have any other suggestions please let me know. Bash it or praise it just give me some input please.
Thanks Chris

That color looks nice and i think that color stripes would look nice on it especially with some 91-92 blisters

Re: Charcoal Grey, Racing Stripes??
For some reason, charcoal cars with colored racing stripes (red, orange, yellow, blue, whatever) almost always seem to look cheesy to me. Not always, but it just seems that the contrast difference seems to look cartoonish... That is, unless the stripes are a different shade of the gray/charcoal or possibly muted silver.
That being said, stripes on these cars can be epic... fail or pass that is. What style stripe are you going to do??
Personal opinion; blocky stripes look really out of place on these cars. The only stripes I think look remotely good on these cars is the heritage stripes.
You asked for input; there you go.

Re: Charcoal Grey, Racing Stripes??
This is exactly what I was looking for, I agree that with the wrong color stripes they can look terrible. I am going to put 87 louvers on it, and by heritage stripes if you mean ones that contour with the louvers on the hood and the pin stripe around the outside than yes. I am really set on painting it a dark charcoal gray, but the stripe color is what I need help on. I have not seen one with a different shade of gray for stripes.

I would go with a lighter or darker shade of gray for the strips. Something that is noticable but not so different that it looks out of place compared to the charcoal gray on the rest of the car.

I'm on the fence about stripes on third gens but I would spray out whatever color you decide on something other than your car. Most paint stores will sell as little as 1 ounce of some colors.
Some tints don't look good together. Colors may look good on paint chip but not so good when you get enough area of color to see. Rattle can clear would be good enough for spray out. JMO Good luck with it. Post pics

i think dark grey with some white stripes would look good, but then again i think white stripes look good on just about every car

I wanted to do some kind of blue. I just stumbled upon a black cherry, I saw a couple picture of cars with it. Is it red or more black? And how do you think that would look on the gray?

Re: Charcoal Grey, Racing Stripes??
good question! I bought the car that way. I've seen a similar stripe on stripeman.com, but I don't know if the person that had it done was inspired by another car or not
thanks for the tip... off to google images right now... lol

Re: Charcoal Grey, Racing Stripes??
that's an opinion. it depends if you like a glossy stripe, or a semi gloss, like the real heritage stripes.
here's a thread with some good pics of a heritage stripe in vinyl
