Since you don't have the hatch trim panel in place it is a fairly simple matter to release the hatch hook. Lower the rear seat backs and crawl back into the hatch. Unscrew the 10mm screw that attaches the manual or solenoid hatch release from the hatch pull-down motor assembly. You'll see a square hole. There is a lever with a bent tab on it that the manual or solenoid hatch release pulls to pop the latch. Rotate it to the left (counter-clockwise) and the latch will release.

I know your problem is already solved, but yes you can open it for future reference. Even if all the trim is in place you can slither to the back, remove the courtesy light cover and find the square hole mentioned above and turn to the left with an appropriatly sized flat head screwdriver or whatever will work. I had to do the same thing with mine.

Not exactly. You first have to remove the 10mm screw holding on either the manual hatch release or solenoid hatch release before you can access that square hole. Also that 10mm screw is not easily accessed through the hole for the light.

Re: How to get into hatch without key

Well, to expand the subject a bit: the key cylinder on my hatchback is very loose...does that mean anything? I was going to replace it but now you got me thinkng that its been tampered with at some point in time???
