Installed the Bi-xenon Morimoto Projectors today

Hi,
Just wanted to showoff my new HID projectors that I just installed.

I got them from The Retrofit Source

I was going to try and make my own, but I got lucky and when I contacted them with some questions on which projectors to buy etc. One of their guys was right in the middle of making these, and the current buyer flaked out. So I snatched them up. I went with the 5k kit.

I'll post some night shots once it gets dark, I still need to aim these too.

Question: Notice my inner high beams how they seem to be tilted on each side. Is there anyway to straight those out? The adjustments would only move them up or down, but won't straighten them from how it looks.

Here are some night shots.

For comparison, here is how the old lights lit up my driveway.

Now the HIDs taken with the same camera.

Here is the cutoff, I'm still not exactly sure if I have these right. I took it for a drive and nobody flashed me, so I'm not blinding anyone. I love how these have the slopes to them. Street signs light up so bright now.

Since my high beam switch is broken, I'm not able to test the high beam function out yet out on the street. But I can only imagine how bright that will be.

so does anyone know if there is a way to 'straighten' those high beam lights out? They look funny how they are now.

Is there no way to adjust the inner lights to make them not crooked like that?

Re: Installed the Bi-xenon Morimoto Projectors today

They aren't crooked. The lower section is designed that way to reduce glare to oncoming drivers & he outside part being higher for further light.

If you look at the Hi/Lo cutoff shield inside the projector, you will see what causes the different light heights. Perfectly normal.

EDIT:I saw referring to the bi-level light outputs.

oh sorry I should have clarified, I'm talking about the inner headlights. The don't look right, they seem to be crooked and I can't figure out how to straighten them so they match the outer headlights.

Re: Installed the Bi-xenon Morimoto Projectors today

Its weird how both sides are tilted up on the inner side almost the same way.

Im not 100% sure...but are those held in with the metal ring just like the bigger 6054 lights in the Firebirds? If so...there is sometimes a little wiggle there. Also...you can try to tweak the holders a bit if thats where you are getting the twist from.

Pop the lights out and see if the buckets are also tilted. If they appear to be straight, then its the retainer ring that is pulling them. It might be possible to just tweak on them a bit and get them to do what you need. Or you could try new ones...should be super cheap.

The projectors look great! And the light output and beam pattern look great!

J.

How "plug and play" are these? What does it take to wire them in. Of course, bolts on never are, lol.

Do they actually sell the housing on that site as I never saw them on there? Did you buy a complete kit from them?

Retrofit doesn't sell housings, that I know of. Which begs the question....Where did he buy those housings at?

I worked with Andrew at Retrofit, I had contacted them about what projectors they thought would fit in this type of housing.
Andrew just happened to be in the middle of making these , and the buyer he had backed out. So I bought them.

The wiring is really simple, you have a +12 and ground at the battery. Then there is a connector that plugs into the factory headlight connector (this is used as the switch for the relay. Then from there they just plug into the ballasts and then plug into the lights. No cutting of factory wires at all!

You do need to cut a good portion of the back of the headlight bucket out to make room for the projector. I did this with a dremel and didn't take too long.

The wiring is the "easy" part. It is fabbing the housings that can be a real pain. Got pics of the housings before they went in? I stopped working on my housings awhile back working on other things.

Re: Installed the Bi-xenon Morimoto Projectors today

How hard is wiring the solenoid with the Hi/lo switch? I just put in the cheap ebay lenses and regret it and want to do the actual projector but im still having wiring problems with the hi beams. it might just be easier to do the bi xenon kit and just have space waste in the high beam spot. also how much did it cost you to do this. not including the ballast or bulbs

This was the easiest thing I've ever done, their kits plug right into the factory harness. I think the only thing I had to do was on their kit was move the pins around to match. Then just connect a + and - to the battery and done.

Total cost was $550, that includes everything needed.

I'm so happy I did these, give the car a much more modern look and actually improves the light output without blinding anyone else.

alright, Im pretty sure i already have most of the things needed, just the projectors and maybe some wires for the solenoid. do you remember if you got the mini H1s or the D2s 2.0 projector?

alright thanks! andrew is helping me out at TRS. just curious did you have to cut and reform the headlight itself to fit the projector. so far from the instructions it looks real simple but i have a feeling there may be more work that screwing it to the back since our headlights dont have much room inside them to fit a projector

Yes you'll need to cut the back of the headlight bucket to allow the projector to go through. I did it with a dremmel, took about 45 minutes to do both sides. Wasn't really a big deal.

45 min? damn, i already cut them out when i made the switch to h4 and HID in reflector housing but i couldnt find my dremels cutting wheel so with some tin snips and my bench mounted grinding wheel it took me 5 min tops. granted yours probably dont look half as bad as mine haha. anyways thanks to you im ordering the kit tomorrow and hopefully will have some sexy new HIDs to show off in a week
