Repair to bodywork after some vandalism

Hi

Some b*stard trick or treaters, played a trick on my car last night and sprayed silver paint on the bonnet and up the drivers side wing mirror and window.

I know that I'm going to have to get the affected areas resprayed, but is there anything I can do to reduce the ghastly silver "blobs" of spray paint on my bonnet ?

I have some splatters of spray paint on my wing mirror and window on the drivers side, is there anything I can do to get rid of this ?

Thanks

Geoff

Try some rubbing alcohol or some paint thinner. But use them sparingly. By the way what is the bonnet? I take it that is the hood?

Paint thinner should get most of it off without damaging the original paint. If a little remains, wetsand it with 1500 grit sand paper and water, then you'll need to buff it. It'll be good as new though.

I've heard that Easy Off Oven Cleaner can take spray paint off of clear coat without damaging the paint underneath. Mind you I haven't tried this (since my car is in primer I can't even test it), but that's what I've heard.

James, the bonnet is the hood.

What about rubbing compound ? Is this too abrasive ?

How about Tcut, would this be any good?

Steve, my dad has some of that oven cleaner stuff, so I might give that a go. He says its really good stuff and even gets the oven clean too ! I was browsing your website last night. I like the mods you've done to your car.

I wouldn't use any solvents on the paint. They'll tear up the original paint. Your best bet is to wet sand the areas to remove the silver, then buff it out. Rubbing compound should work, just be careful not to cut into the original paint too badly. Anything on glass can be scrapped off with a razor blade, or use the solvent. Good luck and get those batards.

Is Oven Cleaner anything like Engine Cleaner? Engine cleaner ruins paint... I botched up one of my flip-up headlights with the stuff.

Thanks Geoff, I appreciate the compliment! Wait until you see the whole thing done in metallic White paint with pearl flames... Remember, that idea with the Oven Cleaner is just what I heard.. I wish I could say I have done it and it worked but I can't.

I have this stuff called liquid luster. Ive never personally tried it for this use, but when it was demonstrated i saw a guy spray paint a cherry red hood, and let it dry and used this and it came right off....i can get you the number to order some if yad like...its not expensive either...like 10 bucks for a bottle.

Since it is just spray paint and the paint wasn't prepped for paint to stick to well to it,,,go out and get some Meguires Body Scrub,,, it is non abrasive but it designed to lift old 'dead' paint,,, it will work similar to a thinner but the only drawback is the where you use it the paint will be alot more glossy,,,d-mn huh ?
it's good stuff I use it to remove overspray alot of the time
