Re: proper jacking points
Frame rails are pretty much the only place to lift on a third gen with a shop lift.

Re: proper jacking points
i think the k frame is a little weak we put on axel stands and it was creaking and groning so we put a third stand on the cross member for extra support i am just concerned about the shop lift going threw the frame and totaling the car is any way i can minimize the risk or can strenthen. it is mainly at the front. thanks

Re: proper jacking points
Best way to lift it to do any welding is on a drive on lift so that the unibody doesn't twist or distort in any way for the new pieces to be fitted properly.

The k member is a strong point too, but hard to reach with a shop lift.

I welded some steel plate to the frame rails.

You can see here where previous jacking attempts had crushed the frame rail.

Re: proper jacking points
You just have to make sure the jack pad is big enough to span the rail. That kind of damage is caused by a bottle jack or similar with too small a lift point.
Shop lifts usually have large enough pads.
As said before, just make sure they don't lift by the pinch, because that's howit is generally done on Hondas, etc.
