Re: Sunoco hood

I might ne wrong but i didnt see a sunoco hood on vfn website. The sunoco on hawks is low profile and wide. the only thing i saw on vfn was really big cowl hoods.

Re: Sunoco hood

Turns out Im not going to be using mine(never painted except for spray paint frm the PO).

Too much to cut off of the bottom and little more waves than I lie, but we are building show style car.

$150 FIRM and I don't want to deal with shipping it unless the buyer sets that all up...

I tried to buy it off of him, but he let me know that it was sold. Truthfully I was bummed, but from what he said it was super thin. I believe the PO really gutted most of the supports from the underside of the hood.

Nonetheless, it is a great looking hood. I almost wish its new owner would mold it out for a group buy.

Re: Sunoco hood

Yeah....long crazy, situation with my car. Ended up putting the old hood(one I've had on it) back on and selling my Sunoco style hood I bought. I sold it to the guy that I was selling my old hood to. I figured it would be the right thing to do!

So, I still have the cowl/Z28 looking hood, lol.

Re: Sunoco hood

I got mine a few months ago, finally getting it all worked out. It’s not perfect from every aspect but the body shape, design and materials were perfect to my application.

Hawks Motorsports (Hawks ThirdGen) sucks

I bought one of Hawks Motorsports' Sunoco fiberglass cowl hoods (supposedly made in Easley, SC) from Bruce Hawkins himself. I drove my Jeep and trailer a long way to pick it up. Soon after, I took my 1986 Camaro and the Sunoco hood to a restoration for installation and paint. Well, that Sunoco hood is a piece of **** that doesn't fit worth a damn. I have pictures to prove it. The hood's dimension's were nowhere close (way too small/narrow) to those of an original GM steel hood. My car is pristine and has never had any front end damage whatsoever. My original GM steel hood fit great and had very consistent, close gaps all the way around. I sent the pictures to Bruce and called him to tell him about all this. He told me to adjust my front fenders to accommodate the Sunoco hood and close up the huge gaps. That is ridiculous! My fenders are where they are supposed to be as dictated by the dimensions of the original GM steel hood. Even if there were enough fender adjustment to close the huge gaps between the junk Sunoco hood and the fenders, it would have deformed (squeezed/mashed in) my front facia and cracked/ruined my core support. Simply put, an aftermarket fiberglass hood should fit the car (or be able to be made to fit by trimming down); the car shouldn’t have to be made to fit the hood. That is “*** backwards.” Also, when installed, the rear of the Sunoco hood would not sit down flush with the fenders. It sat up way too tall at the hinge bolting area. There is no adjustment possible anywhere in that area (either on the hood or on the hinges). In short, to make that Sunoco hood work on my (or any undamaged) car, one would have to essentially re-engineer it and spend mega hours doing fiberglass work to widen it, etc. By the time all was said and done, one would have many thousands of dollars in that fiberglass hood. After much persuading, Bruce finally told me that he would refund the cost of the hood and the cost to ship it back to him. I received a check for the hood, but never received the cost of shipping that he promised me. (A man that doesn’t keep his word is a cockroach.) He later sent me a picture of another Sunoco hood installed (and painted) on another car and tried to pass it off as the hood that I returned to him. No, liar and crook Bruce, I wasn’t born yesterday. As it stands now, I am out the cost of shipping and the cost (in labor hours) of the staff at the restoration shop trying in vain to fit that junky Sunoco hood on my car. By Bruce’s own admission (after having viewed its web site), the restoration shop that I used is one of the best in the country. You can contact Bruce Hawkins at brucehawkins@hawksthirdgenparts.com. Good luck. My advice to you is this: Don’t expect Bruce to care about customer service, part quality, or keeping his word. As for me, I'll catch up to Bruce on the street one day and give him a tune-up. Any rebuttal from him on this just proves what a loser, liar, and crook that he is.

Re: Sunoco hood

My hood was definitely not perfect by a long shot and I brought that to their attention too, but I’ve seen alot of aftermarket hoods have issues also. I personally have yet to finish all the mods to my car and that includes the hood aswell.
