poping the hood problem
poping the hood problem
hey guys, i have a situation that must be solved once and for all. well i know many of my fellow thirdgen buddies all have the same problem. everyone has a problem with poping their hood. after pulling the hood cable thing the hood doesnt pop up. you ussually have to play with it and try to get it to pop up. now i tried rasing the bumbers but that didnt help much. now if anyone knew what the solution is, or has any tips, i would appreciate it. thanks

IMO grease only contributes to the problem by collecting debris and gumming up the works. Two important things. 1) The condition of the hood latch bar. If it is worn you will have problems, replace it. 2) The alignment of the bar with the latch assy. If the hood has been removed or the car was in an accident it may be out of alignment. Loosen the two bolts and adjust the bar until it releases properly. As far as lube goes, I recommend thoroughly cleaning the latch assy and spraying it with dry moly lube. Good luck, Lon.

I just did it today a few hours ago with a few doses of WD-40 and it works great now.

OK, several things.
First, clean the latch with a good brake or carb cleaner and lube it. Make sure it works freely and lube the cable. Then pull the spring out a LITTLE BIT to give it some more tension. Also make sure the latch is aligned. The only thing the 'bumpers' are supposed to be used for is making sure the hood doesn't vibrate or move around while closed. They should be up snug, but not tight (so it doesn't bend or deform), against the hood.
Hood struts play a BIG role in this. A heavy hood won't want to open with weak struts. I'm sure one (usually all)is the problem.
