gmc truck door handles
Just wondering how these would look. Don't want to shave the handles cause if the battery dies you're ****ed.
These would sit flush with the door skin. I believe like 87-90 GMC truck latter door handles.
Can anybody with Photoshop do this so I could see how they look?
Thanks

I'm 6'2" and 245 lbs. Plus I've had two neck surgeries...The hatch probably wouldn't be an option for me.lol

Re: gmc truck door handles
The "hard" part about doing it is the welding of the new piece in then paint & body.
I cut the truck pieces out of a junkyard truck. Nice & big for plenty of material to work with. Fortunately the yard loaned me one of those hand held chop saws. Made cutting it out a piece of cake!
Trim the donor body piece down to size, line it up (the screws were temporary), make sure it is square to the door edge level & cut the car body to line up with the donor piece. Set it in place nice & flush then weld. Woulda been nice to be able to flange the car body but magnets also hold it flush to weld it in place. Or just pay a body shop to do it for you. Better to pay & have it done right than to screw it up & hafta start over.
The plastic clips from the handle to the latch rod inside are the same between the trucks & 3rd gens but you will hafta cut & shorten the rod. No big deal. Just get the handle welded in then cut the rod to length to line up with the plastic clip. It'll make sense once you look inside.
Body filler to final smooth it all out, paint & your done!
This thread has basically the same thing with the S10 handles but he did it the hard way by not grafting in the metal from around the handle.

Re: gmc truck door handles
Doing this to mine as well. They both latch the same way so it shouldn't be an issue. The biggest problem I can see is getting the rods the match up exactly, but if you're talented enough to swap out the bracket itself, modifying the rods shouldn't be an issue.

Re: gmc truck door handles
one alternative to welding the rod might be using a cable clamp to connect the two rods together?
