Gun For Priming?

Hey Guys,

Long story short, me and my dad are stripping/prepping our 87 T/A, and taking it to someone to put paint on it.

We don't have a adequate compressor for a paint gun, so, is there a electric gun that would be fine for spraying primer?

Is that your preference, or is it not possible at all?

Re: Gun For Priming?

Using an electric paint gun on a car even for primer is alien to everything I know about painting cars. The finish left by an electric gun is about five stages beyond bad orange peel.

Re: Gun For Priming?

All the electrics that I know will not leave a decent finish required. Like using a chainsaw to do interior trim work.

The only thing I can suggest is perhaps contacting a tool rental co. and see if they have a 60 gallon you can rent for a few days.

X2.

And be sure to take those mirrors off. Nothing worse than a body colored gasket between the mirror and the door.

Depends on how much you care people notice that you didn't take the mirrors off. Not as bad as other colors, but obvious to anyone that looks and even more obvious when the paint starts flaking off since it doesn't adhere to un-prepped plastic very well.

Re: Gun For Priming?

BLKTRANSAM, I purchased my z28 with a new cheepo macco paint job where they didn't remove the mirrors. When I went to replace the window sweeps/seals I had to remove the mirrors. When I did, the paint on the door came off with the mirrors. Needless to say anything you can remove will greatly improve the overall quality of the paint job.

Re: Gun For Priming?

Actually I need to take them off to strip them anyways.

I'm planning on prepping the car (body work, primer) and having maaco do the best they can with paint.

Wondering if you got this painted by Maaco yet and if so how did it turn out?
