My 87 IROC still has the original hood liner. Most cars I see do not have this or any kind of liner. Is there any advantages/disadvantages to keeping it. I was thinking about removing it, maybe replacing with dynamite. Thoughts?

Nice IROC!
You can get a new one from Classic Industries for around $35. It will definately save your paint on the hood.

Re: Hood advice
I understand that the hood liners were installed to hold down engine noise . (if I have any engine noise I WANT to know about it) as far as damage to hood paint , there will be none if liner is removed . I have removed & trash canned on several cars I have owned . (most new cars do not have them) anyway it's your car , do what you want . good luck ...

Re: Hood advice
I wish they would make a molded liner, like some newer models have. That cheap matted thing for our hoods falls apart too easy.

From my understanding it's a fire blanket. If you have an engine fire, the plastic clip things melts, mat falls onto engine and trys to choke the fire out, or atleast keep it from spreading as fast.

Re: Hood advice
Just rip the dang thing out! It won't hurt your paint if gone as you temps under the hood never reach a point that it could damage it.
