Problems with DIY whiteface gauges! Please help!

I've already done a search on it and found nothing. I have a '90 RS. I down loaded the plates from the Poorman tech article ( I had to modify them quite a bit, as only the speedo was available). My problem is that the gauge cluster is backlit, so when I place them directly over the old faces, the old faces shine through. I removed the black faces and put just the white ones on. I used thick gloss paper, and now I can see all of the stuff behind the faces when the lights are on . What do I do? Or am I just screwed w/ any whiteface gauge?

unfortentally home made ones don't work as well for back lite gauges for this reason. Thats why they are so expensive to buy.

for some reason i have been thinking bout this and i think i came up with a solution. u need to be printing out ur own overlays for this to work. print them out on glossy white paper as normal. then print out a second set on black construction paper, but the second set just print the outlines of things like numbers, tick markes, hi beam indicater. then cut out the outlines on the black paper.then glue the white paper to the black paper and install it like that without the black faces. i have not done this, but it seems that it would work. the black paper should stop enough of the light to not show the shadows inside the cluster and by cutting out the tick marks and numbers, it makes them well lit.

if u do try my suggestion, post pics of the gauge cluster instralled in the day and at night with the lights on. im goin to finally get my replacement cluster on the 7th. i should have pics of it installed not too long after that assuming that it doesnt take forever converting from a cable driven speedo to an electric.

hey! guys its really not that hard, go to my website http://www.geocities.com/cibalibeb and there is a section on making your own white faced gauges, you can download the zip file from the site also. just make sure that you use photo quality paper (about $6 for 10 sheets @ wal-mart)

I don't find your email anywhere, and I think it may have been permission to link, not reproduce

I thought you just said you did that?? Hurm.....

You're not gonna be to so popular around here if you go ripping people of, people really dislike posers on this board. Enough people see my page, its in the tech articles section of the site.

ya well @ first i wasnt being TECHNICAL when i said that you gave ME permission, i ment that you said i (or my web site helper) could list it on my site. but then you wanted to get all TECHNICAL on me when i complied right away to your DEMANDS. and i wasnt trying to rip anybody off, i never once said that it was MY DIY white face gauge page, i just said that it was on my web site, and im happy that you get 200+ hits a week, it just that your page takes alot longer to load than mine does, and thats why i wanted to list it on a site that loaded a little faster, on your site you have to go from page to page to page to get to it. ( im not attacking your site, im just stating the truth ) and you shouldnt go calling anybody a POSER, until you have met them or @ least get to know them, but if you want to go on first impressions, i think that your one selfish unforgiving person.

thanks
