That looks terrible. You can see that the stock spoiler is still on the car.

smh at the indignities to which some 3rd gens have been subjected over the years. If one were to peel that black vinyl "bug guard" off the nose of that IROC, he'd find no paint left under it.

This is a discussion forum. You asked about an ugly spoiler, we're discussing the ugly spoiler. What more could you ask for?
Would you rather no one said anything until you track one down, drill holes, bolt it on, and take it to a cruise night to show off - only to find out everyone hates it?

Seriously, I generally only lurk here, but c'mon man, the guy asked if anybody knew if the spoiler still existed....he did NOT ask for anyone's unsolicited opinion, aren't we better than that, "discussion board" or not?

Opinions don't have to be asked for. Quit your hypersensitive whining...
Re: Does anybody know if this spoiler still exists ?
Like it or not, people have opinions about appearance modifications. It's no big deal, and it's not going to change any time soon. If you like it, who cares? If you're going to cry yourself to sleep at night if anyone doesn't like it, it's better to hear it now than later. Sorry you don't have a sense of humor about it.
I gave you a serious answer, it looks like something that's not intended for a thirdgen. Tossing junkyard spoilers onto thirdgens was common in the mid-late 90s. Maybe if you had a better picture, or more information....

again I didn’t ask for anyones opinion on the spoiler I don’t give a ****. I asked a serious question which wasn’t how do you like it. That spoiler was 499$ at the time so no it’s not a junkyard spoiler. With that I’ll leave this thread. Clearly this site has become a bunch of trolling kids.

thank you very much
Re: Does anybody know if this spoiler still exists ?
I wonder what it would look like in wind tunnel testing , it looks to have a very steep angle of attack compared to the stock wing on my Bird .....

While I like the pedestal spoilers look, I doubt it does anything useful.

Re: Does anybody know if this spoiler still exists ?
It doesn't take much.
Not to compare a nearly 40 year old design to a modern supercar one, the Porsche wind tunnel pic shows what effect even a small wing/spoiler/air foil can actually do.
I would be interested in a third gen wing tunnel smoke test shootout to see what does what and how well. For science.

Re: Does anybody know if this spoiler still exists ?
The Porsche spoiler is nowhere near the pedestal.
The pedestal is straight, no lip, and doesn't have enough gap underneath it for flow.
The 85-90 whale tale is way more effective. The pedestal was for style.

Re: Does anybody know if this spoiler still exists ?
I don't really feel like digging it out, but there are books with photos and details of the early thirdgen development that show the 1982 spoilers (both Trans Am and Z28) being developed and tested in a wind tunnel. The early aerodynamic treatments were functional, later the focus on function sorta went away, but the early stuff was functional.
You mean the high angle cheddar wedge thing that's subject of this thread? Pretty sure it'd still look like *** in a wind tunnel. Well, smokey ***... But I digress.

I think I have the book you are talking about on the way. High Performance Firebirds 1982-1988 ? I remember you mentioning it in a post long ago in another spoiler thread and this got me thinking about it again so I ordered a copy. I'll see if I can post the pictures once it arrives, unless you beat me to it.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm desensitized to the "D" hood. I've seen so many on trashed cars with corn crib, Farm Truck 350 swaps with no air cleaner, that my brain just automatically filters them out of photos. But yeah, they're so hideous they attract the same crowd that would appreciate the spoiler.

Well, whatever you think of that spoiler and Daytona hood, having one, without the other on your 3rd gen, does not complete the look.
