Hatch locking cylinder

Ever since I’ve owned my car the black cover on the lock cylinder for the hatch has been missing. The key works fine though and it turns freely to open the hatch. Recently I purchased a black pair of cylinders from a local parts store and was wondering if I could remove just the black part and install it onto my cylinder. Sure I could replace the whole cylinder but would hate to have one key for the hatch that’s different from the doors. I briefly tried to pry off the black cover from the new cylinder bout it seems like it’s on there pretty good! Plus if I do get it off how would I affix it to the existing cylinder. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks in advance.

Re: Hatch locking cylinder

A good locksmith shop should be able to help you. Replacement covers have 4 tabs that you peen over when you install them. Trying to pry off a cover from a new cylinder will just make junk. There are 2 little springs that go in the 2 holes in the face of your cylinder and they keep the shutter in place before installing the cap. Look for a non keyed cylinder and it will come with all of the parts loose.

Re: Hatch locking cylinder

You are right the pics are of door locks. I figured if I only needed the black cover part it didn’t matter. But unfortunately after reading a previous reply to my post it looks as if it’s impossible to remove just the black part??? Might just have to live with it???

Re: Hatch locking cylinder

no prob! If I recall though... the original is riveted in unfortunately, so it is not a simple unbolt / swap
