TTT ..... been wondering this myself ..... ANDY is selling his
car .. no one is getting parts from Spohn ... did you guys abandon us ??? I've been at "this" longer than most and was going to offer a kit .. since these guys were doing such a banner effort , I thought for sure they would come through ..especailly since the 1st order the ball was dropped ... ALMOST A YEAR AGO...... now it appears the ball is dropped again ..... ??????????
going to pull my 98up 4th gens off this weekend to see if they are even close oin the hub .. and I just bought another pair of calipers too ... when I put the 98up's on my 93 I set them on my 1LE adaptors and they are only .250" off ... maybe gulstrand or someone could make us a special bracket ..

Guys, you're gonna hate me but.....
I just bought a loaded set of calipers WITH the carriers from Autozone. I was reading the other thread and saw the Morse part # posted. So I picked up the phone, called AZ, they said their supplier had them available, said do it, and BAM, 1 week later I had the parts in my sweaty little hands. Since I didn't have any cores, I had to eat that cost but the total was still around $200 for everything minus the brackets that mount to the spindle.
I also got a set of rotors that are slotted and cross drilled for $99 bucks each.
Just a couple more parts and I'm good to go.

I was just trying to point out the discontinued part is still available through sources other than GM.

Yep.
Got them through Autozone by ordering Morse part #4343. That part number contains both left and right calipers, premium pads, the brake pad mounting hardware AND both the left and right carriers. All for $119.00 exchange with a $90 core charge. I'll see if I can get a picture taken and post it but that part number gets you everything but the boomerang(sp?) shaped bracket that's still available through GM, the rotors, and the brake hoses.
And yes you're right, I think everybody does know the others are available through GM.

That price was for the pair. Pretty cheap IMO PLUS you get the discontinued carrier. Hell, even if you could purchase both the carries through GM, just the cost of the carriers alone would be more than that!

So let me get this straight. I can goto Autozone and get most of the stuff for 1LE brakes for 120 bucks, including the elusive bracket? If so, I'm going to Autozone tonight!!!

Well Id like to know what part you ordered....I just got off the phone with BIll at Morse Ph: 773-843-9000...and he confirmed that they are just a pair of loaded calipers....no brakets included at all. He was even nice enough to look back in the warehouse to make sure that it was just a pair of calipers....so either your mistaken or you got the only set with carriers in their wharehouse:hail:
BTW....I had him look under PN P4343 and 4343.....same thing

I'm not on crack guys...
I'll post a picture today but first I have to track down a digital camera since mine was loaned out by my wife.
AZ wanted you to prepay just to order them? I didn't have to prepay for anything upfront. They guy ordered them and said they would send them back if they weren't what I wanted. The AZ computer was very vague in the product description.

Has anyone else been able to find these? Every Autozone I call says that they do not carry that part #, and that it doesnt cross reference. Any idea where else I can find these?

AUTO ZONE has them on the computer
Just returned from Auto Zone. They found on the computer Morse # P4343, the computer showed "P" in front of 4343, Listed as : Calipers, loaded, left&right(both sides).
Okay LESSON Learned, if you call with Morse 4343, they will type in 4343 on their main screen and it will show NOTHING LISTED.
YOU NEED TO, tell them 1990 IROC-Z, with performance brakes, then tell them to look for Moser 4343......that's the way I found the.
The price was $119 plus $90 core= $204
NOTE: I have yet to order them to make sure that the carrier is in there...
This was checked in Little Rock AR @ 9pm 10 June

So if I were to find these complete at autozone what else would I need, besides cutting the spindles to get them to work on my 91 Z28?

I contacted Bill at Morse Auto, and he is looking further into the issue. He said he contacted the caliper factory, and they told him its just calipers, but he is going to find out some more information and let me know. I gave him the link to this topic so he can see the pic of the caliper with the carrier. If they do in fact come with the carriers, you'd better make a mad dash to your local Autozone before someone else buys a set out from under you

It looks like we're dealing with a question of symantics. Keep in mind that the "brackets" and "carriers" are two different parts.
The bracket bolts to the spindle and accepts the assembled caliper (this includes the carrier).
By asking AZ or Morse if the parts come with "brackets" odds are they will tell you NO. Instead they keep saying "loaded" calipers. I have a feeling this includes the elusive carriers we're all after.
I'm going to research this with AZ as well. Hopefully we've found a source for these parts!

........just returned from AutoZone to pick up the Morse P4343 calipers I ordered and I have bad news! They did NOT have the hangers/carriers!
I had to pre-pay for them! However, after opening the box at the counter and not seeing the carriers they agreed to fully refund me (I made sure before pre-paying). So........sounds like 96BlownSSragtop got lucky! Anybody else order and receive theirs yet?
BTW.......the AutoZone part number on my receipt is: 272730 Also.....I was charged $114.99 for the pair instead of the $119.00 others are claiming!?! $90 core charge though. Anbody that can verify that AutoZone number?
Hey 96BlownSSragtop......have your local AutoZone get another set in and if they have the hangers.........I'll buy them from you , pay for shipping and kick in a little extra for your effort! Let me know. Thanks!

The Morse part# 4343 available from AutoZone DOES NOT COME WITH THE CALIPER CARRIERS (brackets)!
I spoke to them today on the phone via the warehouse in DC. They do not come with the calipers carriers.
I have attached an image of the calipers I recieved from AutoZone Morse part# 4343.
96BlownSSRagtop has caused some confusion. I noticed that only one caliper in his picture has a caliper carrier. The other one in the box does not appear to have a carrier with it, and it is still in its original factory wrap.
Also notice that the caliper and carrier pictured is the right side.
Draw your own conclusions.
Thanx,ANDYZ28

WTF is this bullschit?
The Morse part# 4343 available from AutoZone DOES NOT COME WITH THE CALIPER CARRIERS (brackets)!
Well, I don't know what to tell you, MINE DID.
96BlownSSRagtop has caused some confusion.
Confusion? What confusion? All I did was post a message telling everyone what my experience was with AZ after I read this post in the other thread:
I bought some of the loaded caliper sets from autozone. I looked it up (when I worked there) under a 90 z-28 with the performance braking package. They came with the brackets, calipers, pads, pins etc. They are listed under Morse #4343. Now for the real pisser, I bought some of the anchor plates that go btwn the spindle and the caliper brackets, and they are GONE! ARRRGGGHHH, lost in my abyss of a garage. If I could find those, maybe I could measure them out, and try to machine them. Those little bumps would be hard, but I'm sure there is a way.
I posted that I was able to get the elusive bracket by doing just what this person said in his post. I posted my experience, that's all I did.
I noticed that only one caliper in his picture has a caliper carrier. The other one in the box does not appear to have a carrier with it, and it is still in its original factory wrap.
If you can decipher from that schitty picture that the other caliper doesn't have the bracket then you must have some pretty friggin awesome eyesight. Only one caliper is unwrapped because I'm not ready to install the parts yet. First of all, when I received the call from AZ telling me they were in, I asked the person at AZ to open the box and unwrap that part to verify whether it did or did not have the bracket. He was the one that opened it, not me. Also during our phone call, I didn't ask him if he opened the left or right caliper, I just asked him to verify that both of them were there. Answer was(and still is) YES I didn't open the other one because Ididn't have any need to and I didn't want to take the chance of losing any parts.
Also notice that the caliper and carrier pictured is the right side.
Once again, I didn't ask him if he opened the left or right caliper, I just asked him to verify that both of them were there. Answer was(and still is) YES
Draw your own conclusions.
This is a bunch of So what are you trying to say here? Why would I lie? What would be my motivation? Am I some sort of secret sales person for AZ or MORSE? I'm not the one who is currently selling products on this board and TRYING to develop this product for sale, you are. My ONLY reason for doing this was to try and help so people out who are trying to do this by sharing an experience. That's it. So, Andy, want the phone number of the AZ I dealt with and the name of the sales person? Are ya going to call him a liar too? What's his motivation?
So here are my conclusions;
Oh and BTW ANDY, there is no way I can stick the carrier in with the caliper and re-shrinkwrap it. I don't own a shrinkwrap machine. How do you want me to prove to you I don't own a shrinkwrap machine.
Well, I don't know what to tell you, MINE DID.

So here are my conclusions;
- I should have never said anything.
- Yes I paid $114.95. My bad. I made that post from work and went by my memory. I'm old, I was off by $5 bucks; so shoot me.
- I don't BS people or lie; I have no reason to. If you need a reference, ask Guido among others on this UBB.
- Same schit, different post. It seems like there is always someone on this UBB that pulls this kind of crud.
- I think 'Mr. 1LE' has some unresolved issues revolving around the fact that someone else may have discovered something he didn't know about this issue.
- Did you ask the guy at Morse if they have regional warehouses? Got to be an answer to this somewhere.
- I'm going to post one more picture showing both calipers. One will have the original shrink wrap and show that the carrier is included within it, the other will be one you've all already seen.
- After that, I am done. This is BS. Getting raked over the coals and called a liar. For what?
Oh and BTW ANDY, there is no way I can stick the carrier in with the caliper and re-shrinkwrap it. I don't own a shrinkwrap machine. How do you want me to prove to you I don't own a shrinkwrap machine.

from the looks of it it doesn't even look like the caliper and carrier will fit in the box together. The fastening point area is to far away from the carrier.

I just spoke with Bill at Morse Automotive. He explained to me that many of their brake caliper kits come with the carriers, and that when they created a kit for the 90 IROC with Performance Brakes, they saw that the carriers were available through GM. The carriers they used were GM units. Once they ran out of them, the calipers started to come without the carriers. he said that if yuo have to order the part from Autozone, there is a 100% chance that they WILL NOT COME WITH CARRIERS. BUT...If your Autozone happens to have a set laying around, they might have the carriers with them. When did you purchase the kit 96BlownSSragtop? I'm going o go hunting for these soon. I hope this clears up the confusion.

Relax Blown...
I believe you...
Same sort of thing happened to me on another issue.
Thanks for sharing the info...
I think you understand how many people are interested
and are willing to drop their money in a NY minute.
(And how dissapointed they get when it doesn't work out)
Due to the work you did I'm sure a couple of guys will
make out (diligent treasure hunters :-))
Sadly not in Albuquerque :-(
I'm sure Andy didn't mean any harm, He's a cautious skeptical
SOB

Yeah, it looks to me like he just got the elusive needle in the haystack. It happens every now and then.
Here's another route you can go: I got my calipers from Auto Zone also, but I ordered Fenco part numbers C364 and C365, which they STILL HAVE and are a measley $20 for the left side and $35 for the right side, each with a $34 core. I got my core charge back so my front calipers ran me a whopping $55 FOR THE PAIR..not too shabby IMO. These are not loaded, by the way.
Gotta love high schoolers behind the counter

I have never like Andy he always flips out when some one comes up with anything that is not his idea or a new cheaper solution to problems. Like when i suggested that i MIGHT have a guy who could make the carriers he bugged out and flipped b/c we then would not be bying them from out Sponser SPOHN....his hindge kits are way overblown with aerospace 12 point hex nuts.....and it will cost $126 or so for 4 bolts nuts and bushings... thirdgen*******.com is more like it.

96BlownSSragtop, You are correct. I am sorry to have doubted you.
I think 'Mr. 1LE' has some unresolved issues revolving around the fact that someone else may have discovered something he didn't know about this issue.
Yeah, You bet.
camaro6spd, I am sorry for being such an *******, as you have repeatedly pointed out.
I applaud both of you guys for your candor.
Just one of those things I guess. Sorry.
Thanx,ANDYZ28
