Earl's braided brake Problem!!!! Help!

I went to install the Earl's braided lines I got from Summit today. After putting it on, I checked for rubbing and found it was rubbing the bolt heads for the strut.

Did anyone else have this problem???? Can I fix it or should I send them back? Stick with rubber?

Any input would be helpful!!

Did you reattach the line to where it mounts on the strut?

Yes I did. But in the pic it is not becasue I took the bracket off the strut to see if a spacer would help, but it didn't so it is sitting there loosely.

What kit did you purchase? Here's a link to Spohn's site that shows the various applications:

The box has on it "84-87 Camaro w/4whl discs, 88" I have a 1986 Firebird T/A with disc/drum. Summit did not sell a disc/drum setup so I thought I would just have one extra line. SO there are different lengths or something?

Yes, for some applications at least. However, there may be design differences as well. Long ago when I did the Earl's upgrade on my four-wheel disc 85, there was an OE clip of some sort that had to be retained (IIRC). Later, when I went 1LE, that clip was no longer used.

In your first pic, your line mount is installed incorrectly, it should be horizontal after it's tightened down. Try that first.

Above the pics I stated that I had tried it with it on correctly the first time, then I tried putting a spacer on it and moving the bracket around. It all had the same results. It rubbed.

I skimmed that part and missed it. The line should be retained tightly so it won't really rub since it won't be moving in that area. My lines are the same and are tight from the caliper to the retainer, I don't think it will cause you any issues. Also, keep the braided lines, going back to rubber lines would be a downgrade. Good luck.

Re: Earl's braided brake Problem!!!! Help!

They are right against the bolt they will be rubbing. They were not taught at all. A big arch. With the steering in certain positions it hit both bolts. I agree it would be a down grade, and I want a lot not to send them back, but they touch the bolts so much, is there anyway for me to move them out, or make them taught?
