replacement calipers

I need to replace my front calipers on my car. Everything is stock so far. I saw the Bendix calipers on Summit for about $35 bucks.

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
.....Will these be a direct bolt on replacement? I know some people r going to say that I should just upgrade to 1le's or what not, but Im assuming that would be a lot more expensive.

Re: replacement calipers

Sure; except for one thing:

Costs 3½ times as much as buying em down the street.

http://www.autozone.com/N,14400852//...eResultSet.htm

One of the cheeeepest parts on the whole car. There's NO EXCUSE for not having good ones on the car at all times.

Re: replacement calipers

Yeah, but the one he listed is a dual piston caliper. The stock ones are single piston like mine, right? (or does the IROC have the better brakes?)

I did see somewhere that sold a dual piston caliper that was supposed to be a direct replacement for the single piston one. Not too sure how much good it would do, with the small pads and small rotors though...

The pic and the actual part may vary.

Not as far as I can tell.... those won't bolt up to a stock one of these cars. They evidently decided that the PBR caliper would make a prettier pic than the amorphous blob Saginaw one.

Image is a representation of this part. Actual part may vary.

Re: replacement calipers

Yeah im almost certain that its a single piston...the pic they posted is just for looks, but I am figuring that the Bendix ones r better than the ones on the Autozone link that sofakingdom sent me.

How?

They're all "rebuilt". Same part. Kind of like, either it IS a Saggy caliper, or it ISN'T... not a whole lot you can do to make one "better" than another.

But hey, it's your money; go for it if you want. There's nothing wrong with it, it's just an awful expensive way to get no additional benefit.

Re: replacement calipers

Call summit with the part # or e-mail their tech department and ask them if they are a bolt on replacment/factory replacment.
Also ask them if they are dual piston or single.

Re: replacement calipers

i got dorman replacement calipers BRAND NEW zinc plated from the parts store i work at (auto barn). they were $35 each retail and i got them for $20 each with the employee discount. not a bad deal considering they came with all new hardware (new caliper bolts and all)....i'm sure you can find them online somewhere.

Re: replacement calipers

Actually I took Sofakingdom's advice and went to Autozone last night. I bought Raybestos rmfd. calipers for 39.00 and they were loaded with brake pads and new bolts. Oh and there was an $11 core charge. So really it was only 28 bucks a piece. I forgot to ask but I wonder if they have the rears also.
