Need help with parking brake cable.
I just purchased a 1989 Camaro RS and it had prior to my purchase, B&W 3:27 posi rear with stock disc brakes from a 1987 camaro installed on it. Everything seems to be functioning however there is no parking brake cable installed. Should I order the passenger rear cable and drivers rear cable for the 1987 Camaro since that is the year of the entire rear assembly? or, Buy for the 1989 the year of the car? I dont know if there were disc brakes available for the 1989.

I also have a 1989 with 87 rear disk. I went with the 87 cable, and it worked. It takes some work to get them in. I had to put them in the calipers first then the emergency brake.

Thank you so much for the reply. I am going to purchase the cables. Any other info would be appreciated. ie. if you needed different guides or just any thing at all.

Re: Need help with parking brake cable.
I dont remeber it taking anything more. Two cable guides are on the body of the car just above the drive shaft. Then the end should hook into the emergency brake connector that runs to the handle. I will say if you drop the drive shaft it will make it a whole lot easier. Then you will have room to work. I did mine with it in not so fun. Just had it to far and did not want to come back out from under the car.
Oh my car also had two small wire hooks that held the cables as well. Two holes held them in place one on each side.
Go to Autozone.com put in you cars info. the do a seach on brake cable. Then once it pulls up look on that page just below the part, it will have a link to a GM Camaro 1982 to 1992 repair guide.
The following link should take you to the guide.

Re: Need help with parking brake cable.
it would probably work from any third gen as long as it was rear disc.

Thanks a lot for the info. I went to the page and it really helps out a lot. It sounds like it is a pretty hard job but not impossible. Thanks again.

Re: Need help with parking brake cable.
Dont worry it is not a real hard job just take your time. I did it the hard way and it took about 15 minutes for first side then about 40 for the other. And that was because it tried to put it on the EB first and then tried to get it to go on the caliper second.
It should only take about 1 1/2 hours most of the time is spent on jacking the car taking the wheels off and putting them back on. Also for me getting in and out from under the car to get tools. I have a creeper that does help alot.

Good luck finding those cables, im pretty sure when i was trying to find them, autozone, napa, pepboys and advance both had none in the whole country your best bet is going to a junkyard. They had a listing but when they searched the system there were none.
