new prop valve doesnt fit?

hi, i just bought a new wilwood combination proportioning valve and had everything ready to install when i found out the flare nuts provided are not big enough to fit over the stock lines.
http://www.jegs.com/i/Wilwood/950/260-11179/10002/-1
can i buy new flare nuts that will fit or am i in need of a different part?

not to mention the two wire connection i just noticed. my car has only 1 wire to the brake switch. is there anythin i can do?

Re: new prop valve doesnt fit?

the stock brake switch is a warning switch to tell you there is a problem with the braking system. The switch on the wilwood setup is a regular switch to turn the lights on.

You should be able to get the proper sized flare nuts at most auto parts stores, napa usually has a good assortment.

Re: new prop valve doesnt fit?

do they have multiple tubing sizes with the same thread? i know that the front tube off the master cylinder is like 3/16 but the fittings they gave me r to small.
thank you

Re: new prop valve doesnt fit?

the small lines are eiter 3/16 or 3.75mm. the large line for the rear is 6mm. The fittings on the car are bubble flare, so you either have to cut and replare everything to inverted flare to match the prop, or try to find adapters of some kind, not sure exactly what you are doing. The fittings on the car are metric threads, the small fittings are very close to the inverted flare 1/8-27 npt sizes, but THEY ARE NOT THE SAME! do not put them together.

these guys have a lot of crazy bubble flare fittings, and other kinds as well.
http://www.fedhillusa.com/

the fittings that came with the valve are probably SAE inverted flare fittings, not the prop bubble flare ones.

Re: new prop valve doesnt fit?

the difference in size of the tubing and fitting wasnt anything huge so i got the right size drill bit and drilled it out. idk how much pressure there is in the lines but we'll see what happens. unfortunately the flare tool i bought sucked and i dont have time to run out and get a new one right now so ill finish tomorrow probably and post up pics of it finished.
thank you

Re: new prop valve doesnt fit?

I used some adapters from auto zone with the correct fitting and flare with compression fittings on the outs and 3/8-24 to 11 x 1.5 8" adapters for the 2 lines going from the master to the prop valve. I only had to bend those 2. I even reused the stock prop valve mount with a little modification.

i used a 1/4 to 3/16 compression fitting then one of the adapters that was 3/16 line with the 3/8-24 inverted flare fitting to the prop valve.

Re: new prop valve doesnt fit?

I'm still unsure as to why I need a proportioning valve for my 4th gen disc rear swap. I never did this kind of a swap before.

Yes, the fitting is safe for brakes it is a brass union used to join brake lines.

Increasing bias from drum to standard disc to PBR's. Perhaps the best suggestion is an adjustable.

ok, i just dont think i've ever seen a compression fitting rated for the brake use. You learn something new every day

Re: new prop valve doesnt fit?

According to Wilwood the fittings on that proportioning valve are -3 I.F.

http://wilwood.com/MasterCylinders/M...derValves.aspx

{edit: I take back what I said about the fittings being incorrect. In the drawing Wilwood specs them to be -3 fittings. Which is AN 37* seats.

In their instructions for that valve they claim them to be 3/8"-24 SAE I.F. fittings. Which is the same as the tube nuts supplied. And for a standard 3/16" double flared line.

Confusing to say the least. }

Unfortunately I don't think everyone in the parts/repair business has gotten that memo

Re: new prop valve doesnt fit?

Can't a guy just install the prop. valve at the rear end, on a 4th gen rear end, where that "T" is at?

Wouldn't that be easier (I have the 4th gen rear sitting by my fence--he he--so install would be a breeze)? Does it NEED to be right below the master cylinder?

It may be installed anywhere in the line between the M/C and the T to the rear calipers. At the rear T is a bit of a pain to adjust it. They aren't an install and forget it type of device.

After the initial install need to test the front/rear balance and adjust it. Which may take several iterations. Then if pad compound is changed, or even tire diameters changed, it may need to be re-adjusted.
