Proportioning valve to rear brake line problem
I'm trying to replace the brake line that goes from the prop. valve to the rear brakes. The problem I'm having is that I cant find an adapter fitting for the 3/16" line to the prop. valve. The guy at the parts store couldn't figure it out, and I don't know what to do to fix this. I already have the lines installed minus the adapter fitting. The car is an 86 IROC.
Thanks

Re: Proportioning valve to rear brake line problem
the stock line is 6mm, not 3/16. If you ran 3/16, i dont think you will find the right fitting anywhere
its 14mm1.5 bubble flare
this is the fitting, but its for the 1/4" / 6mm line

hate to say it, but your going to have to get creative if you ran 3/16 line, cause your pretty much boned

Re: Proportioning valve to rear brake line problem
The 1/4" lines looked like they were too big. The guy at the parts store convinced me to use the 3/16" but now can't help me with this dillema. He didn't have any 14mm fittings, not even in the catalog.

Re: Proportioning valve to rear brake line problem
I had the EXACT SAME PROBLEM. Listen to me, stop searching. 14mm is only a tiny bit smaller than 1/4". Take your two old fittings and bore them out with a drill press to 1/4", buy the 1/4" line (duh), bubble flare, and install. Stop wasting your time/money on fittings. I did. Btw, my brakes work fine now.

OP, unless you can put together a series of fittings to adapt to 1/4"/6mm hardline, your not going to find a solution in a single fitting

if he convinced you to use the wrong stuff, and cant provide the proper fitting, make him refund you for the line.

Re: Proportioning valve to rear brake line problem
ok, heres a list of crap to use.
flare the 3/16 line with a SAE(inverted) flare, with the proper fitting, 3/8-24
http://store.fedhillusa.com/a13.aspx
then use a coupler of the same size
http://store.fedhillusa.com/a13.aspx
then use a 3/8 SAE to 7/16 SAE adapter
http://store.fedhillusa.com/ad343br.aspx
that will get you to 1/4",
then you need a 1/4" SAE fitting
http://store.fedhillusa.com/a24.aspx
a short piece of 1/4" line, with the above fitting on one side and this fitting on the other
http://store.fedhillusa.com/m124.aspx
that "should" do it, and all the fittings should be available at the parts store, with the exception of the 14mm nut (can you reuse your old one?), but thats a lot of bullshit to adapt the line, and its probably cheaper to just get the right line and use 1 fitting on each end.
