(upgrading brakes) Help me decide what is best suited for my car

So iv been tossing around the idea of upgrade my front and possibly rear brakes.
Heres a list of whats been upgraded so far: LT1 booster, LS1 master cylinder, 1LE proportion valve, Earls stainless steel brake lines all around, went from rear drum brakes to disc brakes when i swap rear ends (9 bolt) i have the iron calipers version. I plan on doing my own spindles and brackets, but what about the hubs? i heard you can turn down either stock rotors or 1LE rotors to use but it depends on what brakes your going to go with. I will be running larger wheels but my plan is to have a set of track tires on some 16" irocs so the brakes would have to fit inside those. Iv been looking at the C4 HD up front but as far as i can tell it will cost more Vs doing a LS1 style setup up front. is one better then the other? As for the rear is it even worth upgrading? i thought of maybe swapping to a LT1/LS1 rear brake setup for the rear. basically im looking for something that it performs well and looks good behind a set of 18" wheels

I've got LS1 rears with C5 std. fronts and I can practically stand the car on the front license plate.

For a budget setup that will see track time I would recommend Wilwood FSL calipers on either C4HD or C5 rotors. They look better and perform better than either the LS1 or C4 sliding calipers. I bought my kit form Ed for around $1000 but you could build it cheaper. Calipers are $170 each. Rotors are $50 and up.

Here they are behind stock IROC wheels.

Re: (upgrading brakes) Help me decide what is best suited for my car

The part number on mine is Wilwood 120-7476-R and 120-7476-L. They have slightly redesigned the FSLs to make them left and right universal. Instead of the crossover tube on the bottom of the caliper they now have internal passages and have 4 bleeders instead of two, make them a universal mount. You still only use the two bleeders, the two facing down you don't have to bleed.

So the new equivalent part number would be 120-11135.

Wilwood has also come up with stepped bore version with 1.88" and 1.75" pistons vs 1.75" and 1.75". I would have purchased this size had it been available at the time.

There part numbers are for a C4HD 13"x1.1" thick rotor. If you go with C5 rotors, they are 12.75"x1.25" thick.

Those Wilwoods look just like what Im thinking of using on my 87. What brakes did you use in the back to match these?

Re: (upgrading brakes) Help me decide what is best suited for my car

ASE,

I use the stock 10.5" iron claiper discs. I also use an adjustable prop valve to set the bias. I have road raced with this combination and found the stock rears to be adequate for track use on my 3500lb car. At least with street tires. With that said, I am waiting for Ed to come out with a rear setup using similar wilwood calipers. Its on his list but I don't think its a big priority right now. In the meantime I'm happy with the stockers. Rear Wilwoods would be for mostly looks. I do plan to get a set of dot approved racing slicks. The stock rears may not be to happy about that. We'll see.

I think I'm going to go with ls1 brakes in the front since it can be done so cheapy. At least for now.

Re: (upgrading brakes) Help me decide what is best suited for my car

I just have so much trouble with my stock rear discs. Now one of my rear calipers is starting to leak and I really dont feel like spending anymore money on these crummy stock brakes. Id almost go with 4th gen rears with the Wilwoods up front. Still better than what Ive got. With the power level Im running, this car isnt even safe to drive.
